Question Noticeable Downshifting? Break Assist?

Traded in my 05 tC for a new 2012 tC RS 7.0 Automatic about two weeks agos...

When I let off the gas and let it coast (from like 30mph) it feels like the transmission is downshifting and slipping, or the brakes are being applied for a second (followed by an increase in RPMs)

I never experienced this with my 05, was wondering if it was normal, possibly part of the brake assist, or safety system? or is something wrong...

Thoughts?

Thanks
Scott

Yea this is engine breaking. Takes some getting use to but you will learn it.

This is my first car I have ever driven with engine breaking and it is quite handy.

The lower the gear the more you feel the engine breaking and slowing the car down. When you are on gears 5 & 6 you feel it much less.

Drop it in manual once you are out of the break in period and learn how engine breaking works at the different gears

Since I've had my exhaust installed, it feels like the engine does it more at higher speeds. I can feel the engine braking in 6th at highway speeds when I let off the gas.

Its not exactly engine breaking, fellas. I mean, that's what is happening, but the thought process at Toyota was to make the automatic sporty.

The auto tranny does the downshifting, not so much to slow you down, but to keep your engine at an optimal RPM range for power, just incase you decide to mash the gas down again.
So in regards to the original question, yes it is perfectly normal. Your 05 did not do it because it did not have a sport tronic transmission, that is new for 11'+.
