Default passenger traillight proiblem

alright, so after i put my subs in, i noticed there was a reflective plate resting at the bottom, outsidge edge of my passenger taillight.

i know this could be due to several reasons. too much bass, rattled it loose. drilling/improper handling while doing reverse light mod loosened it up and finally came loose, and just might be a design flaw from manufacturer. not going straight for it was the subs because it took me awhile to notice it

regardless, i brought it up to dealer and theyre replacing under warranty, just curious if anyone else has had a problem with the tails

so, you did the whole drill out your passenger light and installed a 2nd reverse light? it is quite possible that drilling started knocking something loose, and the bass finished the job.

Did you take a pic of what you saw? I pulled my whole light out to help get an answer for you, and I dident see any reflective plate at the bottom.

I'm thinking it was the combo of vibration from drilling and subs (3 w7s)

I have a picture, but not around a computer to upload it

You could try baking the taillight apart and removing it. I dont think anyone with a tC2 has tried it yet, and I hear that the lens has to actually be cut off and not baked apart on the first gens.

Can you see where the piece came from?

And I can't tell where it came from. It looks fine peeking around inside it

Well that answers one of my questions... wondered if Scion would replace a brakelight assembly that has been drilled out for the 2nd reverse light mod... did they give you any lip about it?

They didn't even look at it. I work for a car audio shop and my service guy at the dealership I've been dealing with for four years through work so we have a great relationship. When I did my springs and Clocked the struts wrong he swapped both strut assemblies under warranty, lol. He takes care of me and I take care of him on all his cars

A loose piece of metal that is just sitting there. When I knock on the taillight it moves around and rattles

Update

Even knowing a guy in service, they will NOT warranty the taillight housing if you drilled a hole in it to add a taillight. The dealer just got an rs yesterday and I pointed out that it and all 2012s are/will be made with two lights, so in my eyes I was fixing a mistake made by Scion, and they still can't do anything because Scion will say it was not an oversight but a design feature. And fyi, a replacement taillight is 200. I opted not to purchase and will wait til led replacements are made for our cars

I'm laughing at how sad this is.

Here's a mod to fix the reverse-light problem... oh whoops, faulty Scion build quality light housing, sorry no replacement for you.

pathetic.

What really gets me, is that all of us (first buyers of the tc2) had to deal with this problem, and because of our _____ing to Scion, they remedied the issue and are adding the light in all models to come. So Scion is basically saying we care about all of our future customers, so were adding this feature that should have been there in the first place, but leaving us 2011s with a car that is potentially unsafe for use in crowded parking lots. They care about their future business, but won't do anything for the numerous people that have already purchased their vehicle. They got is to sign a document promising we will pay them, and now don't care

THIS is the reason why we should NOT mod that light and make Toyota do it. 15 dollar fix? more like losing 200 dollars in warranty coverage. i rest my case.
