Default Scion tC "knocking/rattle"

Hey everyone, trying to see if anyone experience this on a Gen 2 Scion. I have a 2014 tC, manual, with 9.3K miles on it.

In the past month, I put in a TRD CAI, TRD exhaust and TRD lowering springs. The last mod was the TRD springs last week. So coming back from work today, I started to heard a knocking/rattle coming from the rear. Couldn't really make of it. When i got home, i had my gf ride in the back and listen for it. I was convinced it was the springs after seeing another thread saying TRD spring causes knocking in the rear (which is where the sound was coming from). After about 10min of driving, she said it was coming from the roof. When she pushed the roof upwards, the rattle goes away.

So I was thinking, the vibration from the new exhaust and rougher ride of the spring is causing the roof lining nearing the rear hatch to come loose? Any idea for a fix? Would love a DIY to avoid a trip to the dealer. Thanks!

I get more of a clicking from my front springs (eibach sportline) but I have not had any problems with the roof. Are you talking about the headliner or the plastics around the hatch? If the plastics are the issue give them a firm push and make sure they are snapped together properly. If the head liner is the issue check to see that the rear dome light isn't loose or misaligned.

It's hard to pin point the problem. All I know is that when she pushed up, the sound would go away. I can't find anyone to drive so I can't sit in the back and listen closely. I'll push the plastics around the hatch before driving to work tomorrow and see if it still makes the noise.

I haven't taken the headliner out of mine or anything yet, but I know there were plastic pieces above the headliner on my tC1 that clipped into the roof. They helped keep the shape of the headliner, but would make noise when they became loose. Just like yours, when you pushed up on the headliner the noise would go away..

Time to teach her how to drive manual... She's gotta learn sooner or later...
