Something fishy with Insurance quote..
OK, I own a 2011 Scion tC and I love almost everything about it. Almost... long story short, I have wanted a Honda Civic Si since I first got my license 10 years ago and i finally have the means to get one, using my beloved Scion tC as a down payment.
I payed it off at the beginning of the year and given my economical situation and the fact that I like the 2013 redesign. now, I am not trading because the tC2 doesn't do it for me, but because i really just want a Honda Si.
Anyways, so I went and got my driving record from the DMV and went to get quoted for a 2013 Si before i actually went to trade in because i wanted to make sure I could afford the insurance since my record is iffy.
(speeding tickets, no accidents) long story short... apparently the Si will cost me 30 less a month than what I am paying now!
I knew that the tC is over priced when it comes to insurance, but to think that I could get fully insured with all the same things on a new car for cheaper than my 2 year old car, which is also cheaper in price and NOT a performance model. That is crazy.. is this pretty accurate?
If i am going to pay less (I would have been OK with the same amount) for insurance for a car that i really like more, what's holding me back? haha, now i just got to think over the fact that i no longer have a car note and if i wouldn't mind having one again.

2 things to consider, the loss of the trade for a new car. + the additional payments whether it be 1 dollar, or 5,0000 dollars.
yeah, you may save 30 a month, but you may pay a 5k difference, - its only 360 a year difference, so it would take like 11 years to make up the difference if your going for *saving*
I wouldn't do it over 30 bucks imho.

I get what you are saying Penguin, and I love my tC2, but I have been lusting after an Si for 10 years. I am at a point where I wouldn't mind, say, losing 5 or 10 grand
on trading in my car for getting to see a Honda Si in my driveway. So much to consider.. wish I still had my 99 Si. Which was stolen way back when.

I'd run into someone. IMHO, people are stupid around me daily and I avoid a lot of wrecks, let someone pull out in front of me, I'd tbone them and have insurance pay me out.. just sayin
edit, it may do with location too. some area's might cost more for certain vehicles than others. ie. i just called and got new quotes, i pay 1650 for 6 months premium, but i want to move to Ohio, or Indiana, my 6 month becomes 1000 6 months, full coverage everything. >.>
double edit, Scion tC's are rice just the same as Civics, I don't understand your comment ^^

Just dont smash into another Tc and your fine. Honestly when someone pulls out infront of you, its their fault if you hit them for not giving enough time, also when they take a right on a light, and immediately sway into left lane without driving, tehn signaling over.

I traded in my 2012 tC for a 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0t. My insurance is $10 less a month and the Genesis is a faster, more expensive car. I'm not complaining. lol

It is just the "nature of the brand", Scion owner's are perceived to take more risks as we have the highest percentage of insurable losses. Honda is diluted by all the boring cars they sell when they only make one sports car.
I'm actually fairly certain that my insurance would be cheaper if I had a Subaru BRZ instead of a Scion FRS because Subaru sells mostly base model Imprezas and Legacys.

This does not surprise me at all. When I originally was looking for a used Scion, it was near impossible to find one that hadn't been in an accident.
The insurance on my tC is $200/6mo more than my 2.0T VW Tiguan. Most of it coming from the collision coverage.

When I bought my tC, I looked at a 2013 GTI as well. My insurance quote for the GTI was actually $250 cheaper per year, despite being around $12k more in price.
Before the Tiguan my husband had a 2011 2dr GTI, and his insurance was cheaper too. Feels extremely backwards.
Is your Tiguan all-wheel Drive? If it is, then your insurance is higher because they feel you're more likely to drive the vehicle in more dangerious situations such as during snowy/icy conditions thus increasing the likelihood of having an accident versus somebody with front-wheel drive saying "eff it, I'm not going to work today!"
Oh, I meant both Tiguan and GTI have been far cheaper on insurance than the tC. And yes, the Tiguan is an SEL 4motion. Which puts its price almost double the tC. Yet the tC is $300-400 more a year on insurance against them both. lol
Shop around for that insurance. I was paying State Farm more than $700 every six months for my insurance (full coverage, but that exploitative rate was even with $1000 deductibles!) I decided to shop around - USAA was a 'lil better, as was Liberty Mutual. And then there was Progressive. About $280/six months, same coverage. It's only slightly more than my wife's little Versa!
I don't understand the vast difference in rates!

I just got my bill for my insurance and it was actually 130$ higher than it was 6mo ago, when I called my insurance co (State Farm) they said it was because they just got the adjusted rates for my car...I had been paying $530~/6 months, and they just all of a sudden raised the rates on me, even though I have been paying that rate for a year...
Wow I just switched from USAA to State farm because they wanted $100 MORE per month! I went from ~$210/mo with USAA to $117 with State Farm. I was very irked at USAA because I've been a member for well over 5 years. SF didn't blink when I requested a quote and I was even able to lower my deductibles to $750 on comp/collision. I miss USAA but they refused to even talk about a lower quote. Then they had the ***** to ask me "is there anything I can do to keep your business". x_X
