Project TC2's Build Thread. Purchased her in October of 2011!

Sparknotes about me: My name's Brandon and i'm currently an engineering student at the University of Central Florida. I'm originally from North Dakota, but now I'm in Orlando, Florida. I had a Silverado that I lifted and bogged before this car, so the TC is quite a change! For the better if you ask me!

Haha yea he was! A cop pulled me over for my blue lights and told me I had to change them, so I saw his pic in a different thread and decided to do black and gold! Didn't kno he had a thread tho!

how did u put TRD on so nicely on the calipers?

KidJustin 12-02-2011 06:37 AM

vinyl sticker?

Scion202 12-02-2011 06:46 AM

super HEAT! though?

KidJustin 12-02-2011 06:49 AM

special vinyl sticker? haha

ProjectTC2 12-06-2011 02:40 PM

Haha the TRD on my calipers are heat resistant vinyl stickers that I got made at a custom logo shop (They only charged me $1 per sticker!)

And just an update, after 10 days of waiting, my rims finally shipped! They'll be here on friday. I'll post some pictures on friday when they get here!

Would you be so kind as to get four more TRD stickers just like the ones on your calipers and 1 twice the size in black? All heat resistant..

I'll pay you $3 per sticker and I imagine priority mail $7
What'dya say? Use your hook up to spread the Mod Christmas cheer and make an extra buck?

ProjectTC2 12-06-2011 03:00 PM

Haha yea sure I can get you those, I'm going to get a few more made this friday so they'll probably be ready by Monday. Pm me on Monday and see if they're done!

Awesome! On second thought.. and I'm final on this one.. Promise

I would like them all to be Red please. Gonna paint calipers black as well as header heat shield so I'd like red TRD on them.
The heat shield is the reason for the 5th sticker. This one I'd like 3x the caliper ones. Just realized how small they might be.

Question on the Calipers.. Did you have to remove the caliper entirely (detach brake lines) or can everything be masked off?

ProjectTC2 12-06-2011 03:30 PM

Haha sure, I can get them in red instead of black. And I'll get the one 3x bigger.

On my calipers, I taped everything off and hand painted it with a brush and a can of caliper paint. I wouldn't dare use a spray can on a brand new car, I'd definitely screw that up!

TC-Maverick 12-06-2011 03:37 PM

I see.. I'm new to heat resistant paint. Just thought they all came spray since someone painted their heat shield yellow and posted a link to the item. For spray I meant to tape of everything using newspaper and masking tape... hand painting it prolly a good idea but would make it more costly to buy two different paints for shield and calipers

ProjectTC2 12-06-2011 03:45 PM

Spraying is fine, I just didn't want to tape everything off on my calipers so I hand painted it. Spraying your heat shield is fine too, I actually plan on doing it this weekend, just make sure you either take it off or completley tape everything off

Backinblacktc2 12-06-2011 03:45 PM

Your tail lights look nice all blacked out.

TC-Maverick 12-06-2011 04:05 PM

How did you paint the top of the engine? Removed? Where did you find heat resistant in gold? Any other options?

ROCKLANDTOYOTA 12-06-2011 05:31 PM

gold on engine reminds me of TOP SECRET.....

ProjectTC2 12-06-2011 06:26 PM

Black - Thanks!

Maverick - I removed the cover and painted it. VHT makes a gold flake engine enamel

Do you have to replace the seal when putting it back on? Is there a DIY on removing and replacing that?

ProjectTC2 12-06-2011 09:38 PM

Nope, didn't have to replace the seal. Once you take the cover off you can take the seal off and put it back on very easily.

DIY for an xB, not the same, but similar!
