Default USB port / thumb drive compatability

I have a brand new 2012 TC and wanted to use the USB port to play music from my thumb drive. I have the upgraded pioneer touch screen head unit.

I tried several different combinations of having my music organized by folder, as well as using no folders at all. All the files are MP3's.

When i connect the thumb drive it lights up (gets power) and the head unit says "scanning usb drive" for a few minutes. Then it says "bluetooth connection failed and the usb screen shows no files.

I'm wondering if the music files have to be specially formatted or if this USB port is ONLY for ipods. When I called the manager at the dealership he said I wouldn't have any problems but I get the feeling he just said that to get off the phone.... any ideas how to get a thumb drive to work? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

the usb port is definitely not just for ipods. I had an 8gb thumb drive that i used forever before switching to an ipod.

only thing i can suggest is to take the thumb drive, format it (using FAT32 file system), and reload music. the car can read mp3's in folders, as well as in the home directory.

first off couple of quick questions you said "bluetooth connection failed" are you sure your thing to usb and not run bluetooth

what file format are your music files in (FLAC and many other formats will not play)

as for you, Thedevinecomedy, your problem is that the radio is set to only read the first X number of files per folder. you should be able to sepperate them into folders and run them all that way again this could also be they file format of your music)
