Default Would you buy a Scion tC2 2012-13?

The reason I ask, is because I read so much critique on the 2011-2012 regarding the interior etc, saying its cheap etc.. for a fully loaded 2012 with 7 year 100/000mile warranty platinium etc, 21k im looking at OTD.

Would you honestly say its worth it? this is my first new car. Love it or hate it? I LOVE the exterior, the interior felt nice as well but this honestly is like the only new car that has caught my attention and havnt shopped around much.

Pros cons? Just honestly- for 21-22k do you think a scion is a bad investment? or a good one? People seem to try to persuade me away but i would rather go to somewhere like Scionlife who live and breathe Scion and could tell me the honest truth- as of now im digging them and im pretty set on it.

also if i buy the VSA-platinum 7yr/100k mile warranty it pretty much takes care of 99% of the issues right? like something breaks that is covered i take it in they fix for free correct? 0 deductible. 1300 is what it cost. my local Scion dealership it cost 2800 on there website, but on Scion.com its 1300 for the same coverage, so i would buy through Scion.com does my dealership have to honor my online pricing?.

as shown

http://kendallscionofanchorage.net/Finance-Rates.aspx
Platinum Vehicle Service Agreement (XD,TC) 7 year/100,000 mile ($0 deductible) $2595.00
edit- I might buy the 8yr/75k warranty for 200 cheaper, and I dont think I can put 100k on it in 7 years anyway- gives me 1more year, cheaper, and still probably not hit it. since I live in anchorage.. and theres really nowhere to go.

while online if i order it through scion.com it is 1325 for 100k/7yr/plat. seems like anchorage scion tries to rip off those who are unaware, or will i have to pay their pricing? any insight.

This is the price I want to order online, The dealer SHOULD honor it correct? because it had me choose a dealer etc creating this car

Scion tC Summary

  • Base MSRP[2] $18,575
  • Del, Proc & Handling[3] $730
Accessories[4]

Exterior:

  • Rear Lip Spoiler$444
  • Fog Lights$340
Interior:

  • Illuminated Door Sills$375
  • Auto-Dimming Mirror$229
Sound:

  • Pioneer Premium Audio System$479
Wheels:

  • TRD Wheel Locks$72
Performance:

  • TRD Lowering Springs$399
Service & Protection:[5]

  • VSA - 8YR Platinum - 75k, No Deductible$1,175
Total $22,818

-1000 for military discount brings it to 21,818 for my total.. worth it?. and I want to throw TWM shift kit on it as well will do that myself..

Its nice, but its not me. I saw it in person, sporty as can be. I prefer the TC over it. they had 2 of them at the dealership, I wanted to drive them but they just got in the same day. So they still are being like registered into dealership. They are sporty though, a friend of mine keeps saying *buy a genesis coupe* how are they? I like scions looks over genesis coupe but flat out, the thing everyone says is the interior SUCKS on the TC2. how true is this to your guys personal opinion? Also- I am going to be buying clazzio leather seats to put on these seats as well. so yeah..

Straight up IMHO, it's really up to you if you want the TC2 or not. It's not really the opinion of the others to help you decide on whether the interior is up to yours/our standards.

IMO, I really hate the interior of the TC2 because there is so much hard plastic everywhere (the dash, the door, the center console, the center stack....) and a big down grade from what the TC1 has.

I have the 1st gen TC and I perfer that interior over the TC2. In the TC1, the dash has that vinyl feel and look as if it was a padded dashboard, same with the door panels.

Could you find a better car for 21k? Sure you can. I would test drive the TC2 and some of the other cars. I could care less about the interior if the vehicle doesn't drive as good or feel comfortable.

I'm not saying the TC2 is a bad car. It's good car and pretty much it. If you are going to throw money into it to make it go faster, I would look else where.

If you're look for a big 2 door coupe, there are plently on the market. A Genesis Coupe is nice, maybe even the next generation Honda Accord Coupe or a Nissan Altima Coupe.

I think you're going to get a very biased opinion around here. Just about all of us are here because we have a tC and we love our car.

I've had mine for about a month and a half now and I really like it. I've had 2 other vehicles, a top of the line 2008 Chevy Silverado Texas Edition LT, a 2009 Corolla S and now a 2012 Scion tC. To me, there is a big difference between what I've gotten in the tC and what the Corolla was. The tC imo is muuuuch better stock than the corolla would ever be.

I'm gonna try to be as unbiased as possible.

Pros: Factory options that might not seem all that: Sunroof(s?) Projector headlights, ipod/bluetooth/aux pioneer head unit, available accessories, and all the ones to come. I really like the gas milage, I like the sporty feel to it, I like that there aren't many around my town, I like my insurance rate, I like the interior design, I like that the rear bench isn't as crowded as it seems it would be, I like the free 2 year/25k mile free service, I like that it's a Toyota.

Cons: The interior plastics are abundant. The interior gets smudged, scratched easily (it's easily cleaned/removed as well). The paint quality isn't the greatest in the world (I think that's just a Scion thing tho). I dislike the lack of factory power. I dislike that the wheels aren't wider, I dislike that Scion accessories are expensive.

Overall: I like my tC. I really do. I've only had it a month and a half and I can say I'm really liking it. Would I buy it again, yes. I went from the Silverado to my tC and there is nothing like filling up my car with $35, opposed to $85 and it lasting me the same amount of days. Would I look at other options? Maybe. It's just one of those things where if you like it, go for it. You're the one who's gonna drive it and enjoy it.

The one you're looking to purchase, is in fact, heavily loaded with options. I wouldn't buy them directly at the time of purchase, because you can find some of those cheaper. http://trdsparks.com/ for example. However, it's nice I guess, because they get financed and you wont feel it is as bad as letting go of 2 or 300$ at a time.

One last thing! It's a vehicle. Not an investment. Will never be an investment. If you buy a tC, it'll only depreciate in value more and more, you won't see any profit from it, beside the cheer of enjoying it.

yeah, im not into speed. its nice and all, all i want is to have enough pep to have fun with from 0 to highway speeds or what not, i dont race. i am actually a police officer for department of airforce- so speeding/racing etc.. not going to happen to ruin my record. just want a comfortable, stylish daily driver thats nice to drive and will be happy with years to come. looking at my first new car, i didnt compare the interior to other cars. ive never been in a tc1 to compare the tc2 quality. unfortunately if what you say is true that kind of blows..

^ My mom owned a mustang 10 years, bought it new and had it til it wrecked. she loved it. I want to own my car with the intention of driving it til wheels fall off.

you said lack of power options, it does have power windows, power rear view mirror adjustments etc correct? or you mean the lack of engine power?

one more thing, im paying for the car in cash- i may finance like 1-2k of it just to try to build credit. debating on this though since will raise my insurance premiums a ton. Im already going to be paying 250 a month for insurance, while i pay 150 now for subaru full coverage- im 21 with 1 liable wreck on my record. sadly.

so yeah, car+warranty=7-8years without having to worry about mechanical issues would be really nice...

Sorry about that, yeah, I meant engine power. It's way under-powered, and that's coming from me, who also, I'm more about looks rather than speed. I guess it's kinda hard to give it a fair shot when I was driving a 5.3L V8 and now a tC.

He could use his bank, or a federal one since he's military. Toyota finance is usually more than a personal bank.

I'm sure you'll have a great time with the tC, especially coming from your Subaru, I say go for it.

I bought mine last St. Patrick's Day with 6 miles on it, now im over 50,000 miles. i love the tc 2 because it handles great, its comfortable as hell even on long trips, there is plenty of room in the back seat for passengers, great on gas especially for a huge 4 cylinder engine. sure its not as fast as a civic si but there's more low end torque but once you get above 4k rpm t scoots nicely if you can shift right of course. all in all there are great features with the car from factory, the only thing that bothered me was the lack of gauges in the cluster, but i traded from a tundra to this so i cant really complain since its about a decade newer. also idk where your from but if you get a lot of snow like me, get yourself a set of snow tires and its a tank in the snow. its a very fun car and for the price range i dont see a better all around car. 200,000 mile plus cars are why i buy toyota... and this will be my third one to hit that mark

Based off the TC2 you're looking at, I think it'll be perfect for your wants/needs for a decently-priced, good looking commuter car. However, there are a lot of annoyances that come with owning the TC2, i.e., transmission noises, cheap plastics, rattling, and the absence of having your rear camber corrected once it's lowered.

(Subjective)If you want more options, I would look into getting a used/new WRX, used G35 coupe, used/new Gen Coupe. These cars probably have little problems here and there aswell, but they have a more enjoyable drivetrain.

If I remember correctly, you can adjust the front wheels toe+camber, but the back you can only adjust toe.

Your in AK? I'd go WRX and never look back. After owning my tC for almost 6 years, I would NEVER buy another scion tC product. Hell, my 03 civic SI is more fun to drive than my supercharged tC.

A used one, but maybe he doesn't want a used one.
