Default Clunking Noise in Steering Column

I bought a tC2 used a few months back and I love the car. I've always wanted one and I finally pulled the trigger and got one. It handles great and sounds amazing with the few minor upgrades I have added. Unfortunately I live in PA and the roads are horrible.
At low speeds over very bumpy roads I hear a clanking noise coming from what seems to be the steering column. I know the dealership I bought it from replaced the struts before I bought it and I don't think its the struts because the sound really seems like its
in the steering column. Has anyone else experienced this?

If so what was the issue and how do I fix it?

This problem is the intermediate steering shaft

jon67 is probably right. I had a faint clunking in my steering and it was the intermediate steering column Not too expensive to replace at my local mechanic

I have a 2014 tC which had the same issue. After looking at the intermediate shaft i found that it wasn't my problem. Mine was caused by the damper bushing inside the electric motor mounted on the steering column. Its a little aggravating to get to but not an expensive thing to fix. Part was about $10. if anyone needs the part number its
45254-28040 Toyota.

did you have to remove the motor to replace the bushing?

I am having this same exact problem on my 2014 Scion TC. I have the part, I just wish there was more information on how to remove everything. I found one video online but the video starts after everything is taken apart and the guy explains how he did it. But I was hoping to find a video or even pictures step by step. I let this problem go for way too long and it is now to the point where I can’t even drive my car anymore.
