Retrofit Build Thread.
so i've decided since i haven't seen any in depth build threads for xA retrofits, i'll do one myself. this will be my first major mod to the car even though i have other stuff in my garage waiting go on. hopefully the car will be the way i want it by the end of this summer.
as of right now, i have most of my retrofit parts and i'm just waiting for a few key items before i dive into it, which will most likely be in the beginning of february when i have the time to do it. i'll try to take a ton of pictures and be as informative as i can. in the pictures there are doubles of some components such as the adapters and the shrouds, since me and my buddy are doing his 7th gen accord at the same time.
here's my car as it sits right now, minus the rack.
the projectors:
the parts i have right now:
partlist:
-TSX Projectors (washer modded for cutoff, and yes, i'm eliminating my high beams, i got such a good deal on these projectors i don't really care, lol)
-TRS E55-R Shrouds
-TRS AMP to D2S adapters
-DDM Apexcone Raptor V2 55W Ballasts
-DDM Wiring harness (don't want to fry the stock wiring, HID's require a higher initial current to warm up)
-DDM 4500k D2S Bulbs (will be upgraded to phillips 95122+'s eventually)
-a ton of misc. hardware (bolts, nuts, washers, "L" brackets)
i'm excited.

PnP ballasts (40) + wiring harness (15) + cheap d2s bulbs (they're going to swapped for oem phillips eventually, 15) from ddm tuning (shipping 15) = 85
PnP ballast adapter (for use with d2s bulbs, 15) + shrouds (i bought the cheap "imperfect" ones for 25, wouldn't do it again, there were polish burns on them) from theretrofitsource.com (free shipping) = 40
silicone (5) + JB weld (5) + assorted bolts nuts and washers (15) from walmart&home depot = 25
so about 250 with everything said and done, but i got the projectors for almost half of what they're going for, so anyone else could expect (at full price) to be around 300-350.
and it's almost done! i just finished mounting the driver side and just need to clean it up and close it up. i just need to finish aiming the passenger side, i'm just being lazy

a not so great cutoff picture. was driving around enjoying the fruit of my labors and all i had was my phone. will get some better pictures tonight hopefully.
i don't think it's make a huge difference. the lighting reflected off the housing is pretty negligible.

it took me about 8 hours total to do mine, so if you set aside a whole weekend, and take your time and you definitely know what you're doing and have access to all the right equipment (i.e. decent dremel and drill) you will most likely finish it that weekend.

oh yeah, having a garage makes a huge difference. a lot of retrofitters who do this for others make brackets to mount the headlights to aim and align them.
