Default Side mirror defrosters

I have a new 2006 XA and was wondering if anyone else came across this issue. The owner's manual states how to activate defrosters on the side rear view mirrors, but does not work. Anyone have this function working on their 2006 XA? I can not find any refernce to this feature on any of the option packages or standard feature, but yet it is in the book.

Interesting... I've never noticed that... How does the manual say to activate the heated mirrors?

Default side mirror defrosters

Page 74, I believe in the Owner's manual in the CAUTION box. It states that the mirrors will become hot to the touch. An dthen again on a later page (I don't have my book with me), it states they should go on with the rear window defroster switch. So the switvch controls the rear window defroster AND the rear side mirrors. It also relates to this feature in the CATION box on that page as well.

Default Defrosters Rear Side View Mirrors

They're not designed to remove rain or snow....mine looked as if the fog was gone. (still cool to the touch) I contacted my dealership who is Scion certified . He said this is news to him. Maybe there's a relay that wasn't installed when it was prepped. I'll bring this up to the service dept.next week and see what they're able to find out.

Service dept explained that the Xa 06, and indeed the Tc rear side view mirrors both use the "defroster" which is tied into the rear windiow defrosters. They'll turn on via the dash defrost button and then works off of a thermostat control. The dash button's light remains lit so long as the dash button is depressed because the termostat control automativcally knows when to turn itself on/off. The wire element on the rear window stays on so long as the button is depressed. Similarly, the side mirrors are automatically engaged with the help of a thermostat. I had noticed that a dispersion of fog occured yet, the rain drops didn't "melt" off like it had done on another models rear side view mirror -- a Suzuki rice burner.

umm.... just checked.

they don't have defrosters. i have no idea where you are getting your information from..

the rear defrosters on the rear window do indeed have a control and turns off automatically... but it's on a timer.

however... there is absolutely NOTHING on the side mirrors.

some model toyotas do have them... but not us.

Page 76 of my owner's manual mentions that we do, in fact, have the defrost feature for the outside rear view mirrors.....at least for the '06. I guess we'll see soon as winter is close.

Interesting though...it says "mirror", not "mirrors"....so maybe it only on the driver's side.

Interesting... I've yet to experience frost buildup on the mirrors, so can't really tell/haven't noticed this at all.

ok.. another update...

i opened up the mirror assembly... there's nothing going to the mirror itself... the only wires going into the mirror assembly are for the turn signals and for the motor that adjusts the mirror.

checked with TIS as well on wiring.

sad to say but the owner's manual is wrong... i even looked at it... there are more mistakes..
look on page 68... the mirrors don't fold back...

so.. unless you have some rare production model... i'll say again..

there are no defrosters for the side mirrors.

The reason you see no wires for the heated mirrors is that they use the Force to operate......yeah, that's it, the Force.

foxtrot....my car has a turbo too. Good thing I have all wheel drive to tame all that power.
