I had a 6-speed in my last car...And Killrxromances...you are right on the earlier post. You need a lot higher rpm range AND more power. Not only that, but they don't make one for the xA.

Yeah, it would have to be custom for you to even have a six speed. I said that in my first or second post on the forum.

I had a close ratio five speed in my old car.

OK, lets see, a 6 speed would work, and very easily i might add, all you do is add another gear to our existing 5 speed, this would in fact allow the engive to rev a lil lower and freeway speeds, after all thats what 6th gear woudl really be for anyways. This would also allow us to keep the first 5 gears so we could sill have the closed ration to really get the car moving. None of this closed ration 6 speed, not worth it, you cont do it stuff really applies. If i made trannies, i would just add another gear and be on my merry way.

Its not as simple as just adding another gear. If the revs dropped too low, you wouldn't have enough power to keep at a given highway speed.

Yes it is, just dont make the gear that low, duh...go read

If you aren't planning on dropping it that low, than the sixth gear is pointless. It wouldn't give you that much more MPG to justify spending that much money on a custom tranny. No matter what car you drive, the gas milage is going to drop after a certain speed. Once you add that sixth gear and get comfortable driving 80mph, you'll complain you want to drive even faster and get good mpg so you'll want to add another gear.

Point is, most MPG factory testing is generally done around 60-70mph for highway driving. I would say 80% of cars is tested around 60-65mph.

And its not that simple to just add another gear. You would have to find a company to build you a custom tranny, $$$. Then have it installed, or do it yourself. Have it installed, $$$. The 1nz doesn't have a six speed for a reason. That reason is because its not very practical, and even geared practically, its not worth the money to dish out just to gain a few more mpg on the interstate. Everyone has been in a panic just because gas prices went up. I personally think, people should just suck it up and deal with it. Rather than spending a crap load of money on a custom tranny when its not really going to help that much.

ok, mister i take things to far, i was comenting on how you would go about doing it, i at no point, ever said anything about actually doing it.
oh, and about not having it for a reason, did you know that car manufactuers specifically do things to save money, while not always making the best of decisions, did you know that the consumer isnt always in mind as much as the pockets of those who profit? hmmmm? economics, please read

I was implying you were going to do this, however since i was replying to your comment i used "you" as a general, broad statement towards a point. And yes, car manufactures do tons of things to make cars affordable as possible depending upon the car manufacture. For instance, most Ferraris they do not cut back due to the fact they know the consumer is going to be looking at every detail. (just an example, i know we are not in that catigory at all.) Toyota's major cut backs were not doing anything about small rattles, paint and clearcoat. That in itself saved them a lot of money. Its an economy driven car from the factory. Their biggest aim was cheap, reliable and good on gas. It wouldn't be smart for Toyota to say that knowing if they added another gear you could save so much more. The 1nz does not have enough power, nor is it made to have a practical six speed tranny. So, your comment entirely was stuff i already knew. Before you accuse me of "taking things too far", you should realize im speaking in general terms to all who have commented or will comment on this particular forum. Not just you. It just so happens, i respond to your comments since theres a small debate within, and you are really the only one responding to mine.

A 1.5l 1nz-fe with roughly 89whp from the factory is not designed to have a six speed, nor would it be very practical to have one. As i've said numerous times. Its not logical and its costly.
