Default Bug deflector for xA

Hello,

Just got a new car, was wondering if there exists a bug deflector for the xA. Want to keep the hood of the car free of chips.

Also, anyone know how much the clear bra stuff runs? If I can't find a bug deflector soon I might just get the whole front of the car covered with that. In the winter here they drop a lot of sand on the roads. There are also gravel pits around and gravel trucks that run on the freeways here too and they throw some good sized rocks.

Have you looked at the "Front End Mask" that Scion offers as a dealership option? I've never tried one myself, but it looks interesting. It's $55 according to the Scion web site.

I know they do not have a clear mask for the Scion, I was in the Toyota parts store yesterday and I asked them. They said no clear mask, but the have the front end mask. I am not sure if there is another company that may have the clear bra. And I do not think there is a bug deflector either. So I think your only choice is the front end mask.

You can find a clear bra here http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=7919383280

Not sure if I would want to put the bumper part on myself, but the rest doesn't look soooo bad... I helped a friend put one on his GTi a while back. It was 'interesting', and I am sure having another set of hands was a great idea.

I just saw the front end mask.

I was asking my dealer if scion had any acrylic bug deflectors for the xA and said he didn't think so. Then he mention that the cover masks trap moisture and would eventually make the car rust. He probably didn't know scion had a mask for the xA otherwise he would have sold it to me and not hove said anything negative.

Anyway its winter time and I think a mask would be wet 100% of the time. I am worried about what it will do to the paint. Would like to protect the nose though.

Well, its not so much the moisture that will help the rust but all the particles that get under the bra itself. If you take the bra off once in a while, clean the hood itself and clean the bra, it will be fine. Make sure where you have the bra, you wax the area, this helps. This is everything I was told.

I aggree with Slyfx13, I have the factory Scion "mask" on my XA and really like it. I take my "mask" off every two or three car washes and let it (the mask) dry overnight. I always use Eagle One Wax as You Dry when I dry which always ensures a light coat of fresh wax on the car. The Scion brand mask kinda looks like carbon fiber, I think it really makes the front end look niiiicccee! My dad had that clear 3M bra put on his 02 Town&Country (paid $500 ) looks good -but a bird at 75mph cut a slice in the bumper part . Dealer told him that this "bra" could take a rock impact of 100mph and cause no damage! What a liar! If you want some pictures of what the factory mask looks like -I can post some pictures.

I have seen the stuff in action and it more than does what it should, protect your paint. I have a friend who hit a tumble weed - yes they do exist. They are basically a dead shrub - roots and all. He hit it picking his mom up from DIA doing about 60mph by the time he ran into it. Parts of the clear bra on the bumper were pretty boogerd up. He also broke off the plastic under-body tray and the nipple on the P/S pump when he ran it over. Total damage was about $1500 as I recall. The clear bra on the bumper obviously needed to be replaced, but there was NO PAINT DAMAGE, so it did it job! Better than I would have thought given the rest of the damage inflicted... It isn't a magic star wars shield afterall... It is replaceable and meant to protect your paint.

awww nuts!
I tried to post my pics in my gallery, but no such luck.
I slapped together a cheesy little webpage instead.
I only have a picture from when I first brought Karu home and the others show a closeup of the front mask. (I took those a few minutes ago, that's why they're dark)
"xa" is stamped on the driver's side, but my porch light wasn't shining from that direction.
I can include pics of the inside engine lid, if you are curious about how the mask is secured...in daylight, of course...just let me know.

Looks good, I am going to get the front end mask put on mine....some time soon because we had our first real snow fall yesterday and the roads were filled with crap today.
