Crappy dealer delivery problems
I placed an order for my IIP Scion xA 5spd on May 30th. I was told it would be 4-6 weeks to get my car. On July 10th my dealer called and said that they got one in without the side airbags I wanted. I was upset but I didn't want to wait another 4-6 weeks. My dealer said over the phone it would be 7-10 days to get my car. Today is the 14th day without any phone call from my salesman. I finally called him and asked what was going on, he said that it was marked "freight" and he couldn't tell me anything else. As far as he knows it could be waiting to get picked up by a truck in Seattle or could be on it's way. When I asked him to do whatever it takes to get me some more information on when I'll be getting my car he said he'd have his manager make a few calls to Seattle. When he called me back he said that his manager left a voicemail and it would likely be tomorrow for any more information.
So my big question is, why the heck do other people get an exact delivery date when they have a car coming in and my dealer can't tell my anything? I want my damn car! Is my dealership just stupid or is my dealer an idiot?

No phone call today, I guess they never got a voicemail back or were just too busy to deal with me. Lovely eh?

You never know what's going on behind the scenes at a dealership. There is no way to tell if they are being honest with you, or if there is some game being played. Someday we should be able to configure our cars online, order them, track their progress, and go get them when they come in.
Well, let me see if I can shed some light.
First off sorry about the troubles.
Your salesperson wasn't lying, scions typically take 4-6 weeks to get to the factory. Order requests go in every two weeks, and from the point that a car is secured as going to the dealer, it takes about another 4 weeks. total, 6 weeks.
I am assuming your sales rep has never had to get a car with side airbags before.
Each month a preset number of cars are made, then allocated to dealers based on the cars they need.
Not Many Side Air Bag Cars Are Made. The main reason is few people are buying them. The cars already have great safety ratings, and 650 dollars can mean a couple of other upgrades.
For this reason, to find exactly the car you want WITH side air bags is hard to do.
We quote customers 8-10 weeks, ive seen it take as long as 12 weeks.
Again sorry, hope this eased some worrys.
