Default Fueling the XA!

When I go to some gas stations the pump clicks off and keeps clicking off before the tank is full, is anyone else having this problem, or am I the only lucky one??

Yeah xB is the same - pump really slow for a few seconds and then stop, wait a few seconds and do it again - you should be able to pump almost another gallon into the tank. Will take a few more minutes to get that last gallon in.

I could have a empty tank and it will continue doing that like twice every gallon. Gets really frustrating sometimes!

Change the angle of the nozzle into the tank to more horizontal angled forward. You have to prevent gasoline from splashing back on the nozzle tip and shutting off the pump. It may also be possible you have some kind of obstruction in the filler pipe. There is an anti splash valve going into the tank.

You'll have to get your fuel filler neck replaced....mine did this for most gas stations except for one. I didn't find that out till I went in for a check engine light that turned out to be problems with the EVAP system.... after 2 months of headaches, dealership bullcrap, and calls to corporate....I'm on my third complete EVAP system and second fuel filler neck....so far so good (knock on wood)...all covered under warranty...thank god!!...

It may still be covered on the 7 year? emissions warrenty since it is part of the fuel/emmissions system. You might want to just check in the rear wheel well and see if the filler pipe is . . . normal? not bent or pinched.

Supposidly from what the head of the service department told me is that there is a problem in the upper part of the filler neck inside....supposidly it's a $20 peice that's F'n everything up, like a dip or something in the neck.

Thats good to know, that is, if I can actually get that peice for 20 bucks, DriverXa do you know if you know if they fixed this problem, especially I go to get a new one?

Well SHIFT_xA...Its been afew weeks since I got it fixed and soo far (knock on wood) my check engine light hasn't come on, nor has refueling the car given me a problem.. I already cycled 3 tanks of gas through it...and I plan on cycling afew more to make sure its fixed and not "fixed" before I put my mods back on...

As far as the problem goes their is a tsb on these things (EVAP system problem and the fuel filler neck)...so Toyota is fully aware of the problem that in my opinion should have been a full blow recall since the problem happens to the majority of the xAs.

Isn't a TSB a get it fixed for free deal no matter if the warrenty is in force or not? Sounds like a factory defect that should be fixed at no cost to owner.

A TSB is just info for the technician, makes it easier if there is one so they can diagnose and fix it faster. If it was life threatening or could damage the car then they probably would have come out with a recall, however, it is more of a pain than life threatening. Thus, you still have to pay if the car is not under warranty.

Exactly...since the codes I was throwing came up as the TSB it was covered under the warranty. No it was not threatening since they said it was nothing serious to cause the car to become unsafe to drive. I did put on more miles than I'd would have like do to the fact that my dealer was very poor in getting the parts to fix it, notifying me when the parts came in, and then loseing parts during the repair process...on all the attempts to fix the problem...must have put an easy 3,000 miles with that damn light on.

^^^Dang that sucks, thats why I don't take mine to dealerships, I just get all of the parts myself, but I guess it helps being a technician too!

What about fuel type?

I pushed the wrong button at the pump and filled the xa with 93 octane (not a big deal...just didnt want to pay 3.20/gal)

anyway.....about 40 miles later the check engine light came on(not maint light)....i checked the gas cap...and it was tight....havent taken it into toyota yet..maybe today...?

anyone had any problems with fuel type?

U might have gotten a bad batch of gas. O did u use a different brand of gas?..... A higher octane fuel won't cause a problem. It does have more cleanin agents in it and all that other good stuff for your car. Maybe it loosened up some crud that was already in your car.???

^Sounds right....Glad to hear its all covered. I seriously doubt it to be a coincidence....seems to me that Toyota is fully aware of the problem on these cars and just won't issue a recall to keep their image "spotless".... Real shame, but hey has long as ur not forkin over cash to fix their mistake its all good...
