Default Grinding noise when in reverse

Last week I notice that when I put my XA in reverse it makes a grinding noise. I am able to engage the gear and the noise goes away when moving. Does this sound like transmission, or could it be a loose motor mount. Anyone else have this experience?

I've heard this clunk/grind noise when I reverse but it only lasts 1/2 second and its done it since day 1. I always thought it was normal.

Maybe and this is a big maybe, are you pushing the clutch pedal all the way down? Make sure the floor mat isn't behind the pedal either?

Good point. I bottom out the petal in all gears bouncing it off the floor.

Happens in my car too, and I usually get a loud pop after I shift back back into drive, followed by more creaking. I'm in an automatic, but it's been happening since day 1 so I don't know. :/

When I put my stick in reverse it either clunks or jams. I usually let oiff the brake and let the car roll a bit and it will engage. If the car is perfectly still, I then slightly release the clutch as pulling the lever into reverse so it slips right in.

If I need to reverse out of a spot, I will go ahead and shift into reverse before shutting the car off to save any embarrasement of grinding when I take off.

I us to have a real problem with first and reverse til I bleed the cylinder in front of the engine behind the radiator. Get someone to hold the clutch petal to the floor and open that valve slightly on the cylinder then reclose it to get some air out of it.

If I'm trying to go into reverse and it won't set into the gate, I put it as far as it will go without forcing it..then I slowly let out the clutch. It'll fall into place.

It could be due to cold transmission fluid. Do you start n' go or do you let it warm up?

yea i did this once too in my 06 5spd, its due to not being in the gear completely and letting off the clutch too soon. man, these cars should have been built a little better....

does anyone else get a clunking noise when they shift? This bothers the hell out of me, it sounds so cheap!

the only time i ever hear a grinding noise is when i shift from any gear to reverse while my car is moving. but that happened in my xa and also my integra..and it happens in my husbands xb. i think its just the nature of driving a manual. though i have to say if i am slowly creeping, sometimes i find it real hard to pop it back into first gear. it almost feels like i am forcing it back into first...but then again, that has happened in all the above cars i've driven and also my bro's truck, an x-runner.
