little help!!? CAI or SRI?
hey, ive searched the net to find the right info on what to buy, but im not really all that great with these kind of things. And where i live i cant just walk into a shop and ask for advice. BUT i do live in egg country! everywhere you look you see eggs, but only a handfull of people customize their ists. oke so i recently installed some 17" with 225/45/17 tires, and my gas usage increased alot! and my ride became a bit slower. so now i want to install a air intake. i was thinking about buying a cold air intake but ( not only is it more expensive then a SRI) it rains alot here, and the streets get flooded real quick. so im afraid i might get water in the machine. so im leaning towards the short ram intake. but the problem is i can only find intakes for the scion xa 2004+, and im driving a 2002 ist, and i dont know what intake to buy and if it wil fit...any suggestions?
p.s
sorry for the bad spelling, english isnt my daily language.

I'm tempted to give you my opinion (which has nothing to do with a CAI or SRI), but has everything to do with circumfrence, diameter, 2(Pi)R, weight... you get the hint.
I'm actually a fan of the HAI

Hey drclay, I've got the Blitz SUS Power intake, it's pretty nice. Didn't notice much of a difference, it's a lot louder than the stock intake was. But depending on which strut bar you have, if you have one, it can be a pain to take out the filter to clean. The filter sits right where the stock air box sits so you don't have to worry about sucking up water. Hope it helps.

I have info. on the HAI.
Well, basiclly pulling off the snorkle, running a HAI system produces:
1. possibly an increase in mpg. I have noticed it on my end of things, but I cannot guarentee it for everyone.
2. makes your car run lean = spark pugs get white on tips/electrode = does long term damage to your intake/exhaust valves.
#2 was just recently taught to me by a friend. I'm aware of the difference between rich versus lean air/fuel mixtures , but that is the net effect of running a HAI... gaining some more mpg, etc.
I run synthetics, drive like a grandma, keep the momentum up(as little breaking as possible), etc. ...... but at this point I'm not sure running a HAI is totally worth in the long run your engine's valves into the ground prematurely.
