My xA Thoughts...
I know I have complained about my small, minor problems with my xA. I even went to two Toyota dealerships looked around and applied for another car loan for a silver base model '07 Camry couple months ago. But came short with the Scion's payoff so I walked out with the xA again. Then again I had the same great feeling when I brought the xA; leaving with it from the dealership for the first time.
Then of course I get made fun of having the xA at work quite often...co-workers state it's "Piece of junk" and that I put in too much money in it. I get very insulted by it and it almost ____es me off. Of course, there's other people like my sales consultant. Who thinks we are the perfect match and calls my car " Your Baby."
But the more and more I see streaming online videos about Scion's and their owners...I always have to jump off the computer and quickly dive into the driver's seat go for a drive. So I officially realize I have deep affection and passion towards my xA. Since so many people are getting rid of them...I want to keep my Baby.
I am still serious about me buying a second car due to high mileage. I thought of a Yaris but something that is 13,000; I could save the extra cash and buy another Scion model like the xB. My theory is, I love to drive. Driving for me is my freedom from work and family. It's fun to drive around with the music blasting up. And I could share the miles between the two cars. I have been putting serious thoughts into it like double insurance and double car payments. I did the whole numbers on everything...so I would be fine if I walk into the dealership with a very good down payment.

Cause some of them own Honda's...Now you know what I mean. "If it's not a Honda. It's not Japanese. It's crap" kind of crap. So you know what I'm saying. Then they also laugh at the fact I'm under 72 month loan. They believe the xA won't last that long. At the time I was shopping for the xA I had 8.00 hr. job and I couldn't afford 320.00 payment. So the only way I could buy it is if I went with the 72 month with the payments as 280.00.

Not that I recommend even having such a pointless debate, but you can remind them that the Scion xA is 100% made in Japan. None of it's assembly is done in the United States or anywhere else. Secondly, it's a Toyota. Scion is just a name badge. The xA has been the Toyota ist for several years now in Japan. It is has every bit as good (if not better) quality as a Honda product. The 72 month loan does suck, but I can assure you that if you take good car of it, that xA can still be a great car 10 - 12 years from now.
Dude don't let people hate on your car, that is the lamest thing ever. I've know a guy who owns a vette here at work and he's always gotta remind people of the fact. It gets really old.
Bottom line is anyone can buy a $50,000 dollar car if you are willing to make the payments.
I had another friend that I hadn't talked to in a while, and he was in the market for a car. He asked me "Do you know anything about Scions?" I told him yeah actually I bought one just a couple weeks ago.
Time went by and he hadn't seen it yet, and he was gonna come out for something or other and when he mentioned he was going to see my new car finally he referred to it as my "piddly little thing"... I was pretty ____ed, but I just said "Whatever".
Now we go out with a group of friends and everyone wants to see the new LED's I've got in my car. And what's he got, a beat up Explorer? I don't even have to say anything.
When someone shows pride in their vehicle or anything in their life it's polite and supportive to complement them on it no matter your feelings on it's looks/origins.
It shows a really weak character when someone disrespects you for no other reason than they are looking for a reason to be a ****-head.

XPRESSCION........Maybe it's because I've got a few years on you, but long ago I quit worrying about what other's thought of me or decision I've made. Maybe as we age we become more secure with ourselves....I dont know.
Money isn't an issue for me. So, within reason, I could be driving just about anything I wanted to. But, I chose an xA for lots of reasons. It's decent looking, gets respectable fuel mileage, is easy to park, doesn't pollute much and didn't cost an-arm-and-a-leg.....even with the few goodies I've added, I don't have much tied up in it.
Do I feel silly driving an xA? Not at all. In fact, I feel rather smart driving one. But, the guy next to me at the red light sitting in his Hummer H2 with 22'' dubs and a cell phone glued to his head, completely oblivious to the world around him......well, umm....that would be silly.
So drive with confidence my friend!

Funny story about the "Honda Crowd" you can appreciate...
My boyfriend drives a Civic, and when I was in the market for a new car, he did almost EVERYTHING short of buying the car to get me into a Honda too. I, like you, however, had a limited budget but wanted a brand new car.
When I was test driving the Xa he made faces, dragged me to a million dealerships to try and talk me out of it, etc. I didn't relent. I knew my baby from the moment I saw her.
Fast forward, I am tired and don't want to drive one day, so he gets behind the wheel. Even he had to concede that its a pretty sweet car. Even seeing the specs he didn't want to have it since its not his precious "Honda" brand, but he relented, and is now the reason I want to do more with my car. He actually likes it! Imagine that, a Honda junkie got me into my car and this forum for that matter. LOL Go figure.
And considering my HP is 5 less than his with torque that rivals his "superior class" vehicle, not to mention a stylish body and dozens of equally sweet options, I can see why I get into this. Yes, my goal is to put his piddly Civic to shame.
My Xa will get me there!

Hondas:
-always had jerky automatic transmission shifts, even now with them 5 speed autos
-always had insufficient sound insulation but cost the same as Toyotas which has more sound proofing
-always "felt" like a performance vehicle with stiff shocks and springs but in reality it's a little faster than the average toyota on the track
-have them Honda Crowd check their VIN for 1 or 4 or 5 as the first digit which are made in the United States of America. They probably have 4 recalls already on a 2005 Honda Odyssey (in my dad's case) which means bad workmanship/assemblymanship is that a word?
how would you like it if one of your ABS brake sensor is hooked up on the wrong wheel and when it is time for you to brake urgently, the computer unlocks the wrong wheel and spins you out of control. -2005 Honda Odyssey VIN starting with 5. Only 10% japanese parts=the engine
-with 13,320 can you get a honda with body color matched side mirrors+door handles+side skirts?
-they are all overpriced, for example: on Honda motorcycles, some of the chrome parts are plastic. Whereas Kawasaki motorcycle, anything that is chrome looking, IS chromed metal.

My theory is....There's more 1980's Camry's on the road today than Civics. Still running good; they might look all rusted out but they still run.
So Toys are top notch!!!! I'm sticking to it
Well, on Thursday I went back to the dealership. I had alloy wheels on order for the past several weeks and I've been putting it off due to I rather spend something that is much better for a grand not be stuck with Scion alloy wheels. And I think back rims would look so much better on my xA.
Anyway, I happened to walk out and all of sudden someone starts calling my name. I look up seeing my sales consultant walking towards me. So we chatted for few minutes...I told her I may come back for another car. She laughs and thinks I want to trade in the xA again. lol Then I told her "Well I have put almost 30,000 miles on my xA and I would like to look into buying a second car." First reaction of her's "How in the hell have you put 30,000 miles on your car when you got it in March???" then I reply "Helps the fact I have been driving 45 miles one way to work for the past four months." So she told me if I wanted to walk out with the keys of a xB...I need to put down 7 grand. But she thought it was quite good idea since I would get dual insurance and my mileage would be 50/50 on each cars. So we'll have to wait and see if I can get that much money saved up in five-six months....

I understand wanting 2 cars to keep down mileage on a more expensive car (w/ more expensive maintenance and lower gas mileage), but what is the point of keeping down mileage on a lower cost car with good reliability and good gas mileage like the xA?
If you absolutely love your xA and want to keep mileage down (since they are discontinuing it and you can't buy another one), then I understand that, but financially, putting all of your mileage on the xA should be the cheapest solution.
