Default Need Help with Springs (Xa)

Alright, I'm very new to the concept of lowering my car, I have nice rims on already but they don't look right with the stock height.
Now I saw some lowering springs online, but would I also need new shocks?
Also are coilovers any good?
Also does anyone know how much it would cost to get it installed.
Any one know anything about this please help me out, and advice would help, Where to buy, what I should buy, ect.
Thanks in advance.

you dont have to get new shocks, but they will have a dramatically shorter life if you dont replace OEM. spring installs should run from 50-125. somewhere in between that and you're doing ok IMO. coilovers are good if you can get Tein or the real thing. no ebay ones. good coilovers are not under $500. thats a good rule of thumb i think. Best place to buy springs.. check the sponsored sales forum. If not there, you can get some good deals on ebay for name brand. Dont get the knockoff cheapys. Yea they may hold, but youll feel it in the ride.

Hope this helps,
Scott

so like a TRD spring on stock shocks would actually make ths shocks go bad faster right? dang.......all this crap is gonna cost more than I thought. And I'm planning to get an injen intake (short ram) new muffler, and lowering the car for around 600....guess I can't get all that crap with my price range.

You can afford if you do it yourself or know a mechanic.

A good set of springs will run you 150. I wouldn't get TRD since it only drops you 1 inch (the wheel gap is still there). Either go with Tien S, RSR, Tanabes, or Goldlines if you want a more agressive drop.

Injen Intake cost around 150. Do a search and you find a few sites.

For exhausts, just buy a universal muffler and have a muffler shop weld it for you with 2 in piping. You'll save a lot more money then buying a pre made axle back. Besides, axlebacks are mainly for show. Performance gains if any are very minimal.

work with the stock shocks? If it's not recommended then can any one recommend me a cheap set of shocks?

That will work. It's the same setup I have on my car~ 4 months running with no problems.

Most of the brand name springs will work with the stock shocks. The more agressive drops like the tanabes will come with bump stops to prevent the shocks from bottoming out. Other shocks (around 1-1.8 in drop) won't have much of a problem with shock failure.

Depending on where you drive, the stock shocks can last as long as 2-3 years. Only a few cases have been known where the stock ones blew early, and that is out of how many xA and xB drivers?

did you have to do a wheel alignment after putting in your springs?

no you dont. its one of the "recommended" things though. I havent yet. I was told it wasnt going to change that much so hold off on it until it starts pulling you off the road

You only need a front wheel alignment since theres nothing much to adjust in the rear. It'll run you around 30-40 bucks, but will save you 300 in tires for the long run.

I run Tein Stech springs and have had them for about one year now. No problems and the car drives better than before. Best part is you can find Tein Stech on here or ebay for 120-150 shipped.

PS Check out the tech section there is a how to on springs install. I did it in about 1 hour in my drive way. That includes smoke break and BSing

That's how the xA sits with stock wheels and the Tanabe.. I love mine, with the stock 15's I scraped a bit but since I got my 18's I have only scraped once(coz I am a dumbass)

I really like my Tanabes and have not had a single problem. The ride is nice but I have been told Goldlines and TRD have a more comfy ride.. I wanted a aggressive drop and spring.. I defiantly got it!

I have the tanabe df210 springs as well on my xA. I love the aggressive drop. When i first had the trd springs i hated the ride, it was really stiff and the drop was only 1". The ride on the tanabes are a little bouncy but it feels good when driving haha.

Are the TRD springs the safest way to go as far lowering with the fewest amount of maintanence issues?

I want to lower the car, but I plan to keep this car till it dies and I don't want to deal with frequent shock/supension/allignment issues. A one inch drop is good enough for me, but I won't do it if I still have to replace the shocks more often.

Alright well this is my car, as you can see my rims look good, but it sits too damn high!

I've found Tanabes springs for 138$ the pain in the ___ part is getting the damn thing installed, I've asked shop after shop and they start at least around 200-300$ AHH!
Any suggestions on that? Also.....since I'm getting 3 things done, Injen shortram Intake,
Lowering my car, and putting in new muffler. If I had to only choose 2 things to be done with my car, which should I choose? Any idea would help.
Thanks in advance

Lowering your car gives the best bang for the buck. You'll be amazed at how different the car looks afterwards and how it handles.

Spring install should only run around 60-120 depending on area~~ Better yet, do it yourself with a set of socket tools, floor jack, and a couple of friends (along with some beer) :D

Intake should be next, then exhaust.
