Actually, I just put my old Borbets back on.
Sorry, as much as I loved the look of the whitewalls, I just love corner-carving more!

Besides, as much as I hate to admit it, the whitewalls look WAY better on your car!

(*I just realized that if you look real closely, you can see the reflection of the back of my Mach I in the driver's door! )

It cracks me up all the minority folks wearing VonDutch brand stuff - not knowing anything about the real guy. He was an alcoholic, racist, mean f**ker. He's rolling over in his grave...
I've seen this sicker "Ken Howard Hates You" That would mean something only to the people who know who Ken Howard was...

You should look at a friend of Dutch, Ed "Big Daddy" Roth, creator of Rat Fink & several show cars. He worked in fiberglass before everybody, used unique parts, including Corvair, & yes, he drove a Honda Civic. Oh yeah, he converted to mormomism later in life. Roth actually edited some of his monster shirt designs after his mormon switch.

I really don't know what to make of your message except to say that I think it is very odd. I'm not quite sure where you're coming from. To the best of knowledge, pin striping doesn't cross any racial, social, political or religious boundaries - it's just pin stripping. Being a minority myself, I never noticed other "minorities" wearing Von Dutch gear. I guess I just noticed people wearing it. I don't think it matters who's style I decide to emulate. I think it is more important to not be separatist in my heart.

It sounded like he was fairly iconic in the 50's/60's , with all the work he did do, and what he stood for.

Here is something he said, I took from a web-site that seemed to stand out to me:

" I'm a mechanic first." he used to say, "If I had my way I'd be a gunsmith! I like to make things out of metal, because metal is forever. When you paint something, how long does it last? A few years, and then it's gone!"

How true is that. At the same time, in something only lasting a few years.. that probably helped him stay in business .... , yet it also holds true for those 1000's of t-shirts floating around... most people probably spent $15+ on them

For what it's worth...VonDutch is dead. Also...he was totally against the money making thing...seemed to go out of his way to NOT make money. If I'm not mistaken, the people making the money from his name have nothing to do with him, his family or even the real car world. He was a genius at the things he did. Unfortunatley, he was also a racist.

I know everybody else has been cramming it down your throat, but that ride is SCREEEEAMINNNG for some pinstriping!

Not to steal any of your thunder, but I did a little on my Box, which surprisingly has gotten a LOT of positive attention!

That would look so much cooler on your satin paint...
