Default New xA owner

Hey there people. Couldn't help it so I joined the xA club. I got my black xA last month (8/15/06) and I'm very happy with it. I'm a college student who goes to school 5 days a week so this car is a lovely haul with its spiffy economy gas. Before I was dreaming of a Camry (1996 LE) as my first car, and then I changed my mind (due to the expensive gas proces) and thought about the Ford Focus, Kia Rio, and the Yaris (I knew Ford Focus and Kia cars don't have the best reps). We went to the Toyota dealership and and we were looking at the Yaris. It looked horrible No offense to those who own one. I just didn't like it. Then we checked the xB but I just loathed the boxiness of that model. I'm sure it's spacey but the exterior just doesn't cut it for me. Next we checked the tC. Oh lordy, that car looks like one of those Fast & the Furious types and it just doesn't seem ro match my personality. I'm pretty simple, laid back, practical, and all about school. Definitely not the racer or sporty type. And then I saw this lone black xA... the last of its kind in the dealership. Tried it for a test drive and immedietly became enamoured with it. It's the best economic car ever in and out. This car is my 1st baby! So I named my black xA "Chow-chow" after that black-tongued dog. Well, there's my story.

Thanks for warm welcome y'all. Do you guys think the Scion brand is as durable as the Toyota brand? Because I really want to keep my xA for a very long time.

Hey where abouts are you in CA?
I'm in the Temecula area. There's so many tCs and xBs around here. Rarely seen an xA.

Aah. As much as I'd love to make my Shamu "come to life", I just can't bare to change its black hue. I'm smitten with it.

Welcomes another black xA! I thought about the Yaris also because the trunk would save me a rear end collision by a hummer/suburban (lots of those in snow state Colorado) But it is just too ugly. As for the box, I would get my ___ kicked 9 days aweek no offense to xB owners, my friends are the ones that are offending you by kicking my ___. And tC is out of my price range. So I got xA, my favorite is standard steering wheel controls. Anyways welcome.

I don't see why a Scion won't last as long as any other Toyota...Except for the skin, it's all Toyota parts.

Really. If that's true then thank god! I know Toyotas are durable cars. Just wanted to make sure Scions were too.

Are you talking to me? If so, what I'm planning to do with my xA is to ask my dad to upgrade my xA with a center armrest and hopefully he'll (or me) get me the black rear spoiler. I really feel that the spoiler is essential for the exterior just because to me, it balances the shape of the xA. By the way, has any one of you ever upgraded with the center arm rest? If so, did it hinder the hand brake?

Not running the armrest...so you will have to check with someone else about the show-da lean....

But, I am with you on the rear spoiler...it really finishes the roofline, to me.

What?! The center arm rest hinders the hand brake? That's sad. I thought they'd design something that would get around those hurdles. Guess not.

Oh okay. So you don't know if the arm rest hinders the hand brake then?

I thought it hinged up so that it wouldn't hinder the handbrake.

Yeah, if you flip it up, it's out of the way. I always leave it down. So there's a little bit of arm contorting to operate.
