Default Opinions on a new xA

Folks,

I am new to the forum and Scions in general, but it looks like I am going to purchase my first Scion in the morning. My wife and kids have forbid me to purchase an xB (poor misguided folks) so it looks like I am going to purchase an xA. This car will be for show and stereo competition as well as for daily driving. My current vehicle is a Suzuki Aerio SX with over $37k invested in the car and stereo, and we meter 163.1 in it, so I know what I am doing when it comes to that. The goal here will possibly be to build the world's loudest Scion.

Anyway, seems like for every 10 Scions, 9 are xB's and 1 are xA's so this might be a wise move. Here's the car I am looking at. I would appreciate your opinions on the car and price, but understand up front that my Toyota dealers around here really don't seem to care about doing business or a customer, so I am going up to Denver to get this one. The car is already built and in stock.

2005 xA, 5 speed, white.
Factory Accessories: Rear Spoiler, Amber interior led light enhancements.

Aftermarket:
Kenstyle full body kit
18" Devino 602's with Niche tires
2" Spring lowering springs
Injen air intake system
DC sport headers
DC strut tower bar

My total price will be $18,248 plus the $299 dealer handling fee.

Does that sound like the right price, even though there is "pure pricing". I will be removing the entire rear hatch area and both rear seats in order to try and install my stereo equipment, which right now consists of 4 RE XXX 10's, 2 RE MT 18's, 2 SH-1 amps, 4 Atomic 1500.1 amps, 2 Xtant 1.1i amps, Focal 165V2's, and 5 Optima Yellow Tops. Gonna be a rough squeeze, I know, and I might have to remove the front passenger seat as well, no biggie.

The 860 pounds of stereo and batteries might be too much weight, especially with 2" lowering springs. Anyone have any comments on loading up an xA, say with 4 200lb adults and seeing how low it goes?

Kind Regards, and thanks in advance for any input on the xA. Wish I could do an xB, but you have to pick and choose your battles I guess

Good luck with your goals. I would say a Xb would be better for sound offs because there is more room to put speakers. Just my $.02 on that. I will add more to this when I get back but right now im off to the movies.

Yes and no on the xB. It's got more room, but more cabin space to pressurize. The right equipment in the right enclosure can make the xA alot louder than the xB for alot less money, effort and modifications. Either way, the family forbids me to get the xB because of it's looks (said the same about the PT Cruiser too).

Kind Regards,
Matt

Ok got back from the movies. Congrats on getting a Scion. Now some things to think about. Are you going to mold the sound system into the car, or have it movable? If molded I dont think you can do to much if you need it as a daily driver. There is not much space behind the rear seat. I would see if you could have the spoiler taken off & the light kit. You can find a better show spoiler then the stock one. Also the lights suck from what I have read. With out that you would look at a $13,000+ dealer fees & Licens/title/reg along with tax. So I think $18k seems a little high. I think you should get it around $16k or around there. If the dealer says they have a "Handling Fee" tell them to kiss you where the sun dont shine. The only few they should add is a "Document Fee" & around me it runs $298. If you gut out the inside some you could lose at least 40 lbs, mostly because of spare tire & so on. As for all that weight & the drop I dont know. 860Lbs in a 2300Lb car. Thats almost half the weight of the car so im not sure if the suspension stock could handle that. So I cant help you there, just wish you luck. Also you will be killing this little 108hp engine with all that weight. Hope this helps some.

Not sure how I will do the install, but I have done the same in my Suzuki so it certainly can be done. However, you would be surprised at the space I could find after I gut the car from the front seats back. It's just a little smaller than my Suzuki.

On this particular xA, the dealer added the headers, springs, intake system, body kit, tires and wheels, so he itemized everything for me and it seems like it all adds up.

My other option is an 04 xB, blue with the 1600 chrome wheels and tires, 6 CD system, auto, with 1000 miles, that another dealer wants to sell me for 16,500.00. He was asking 18,200 the other day, so I told him to get bent. I like the xB, but the rest of my family doesn't see it the same way. My wife loves the tC, but it looks ordinary to me.

Kind Regards,
Matt

That price still seems high. I want to get a stock 5spd xA. So here is my price break down of some parts like those that comes with yours, minus the body kit.

xA = $13,000
DC Header = $215
Injen CAI = $240
Volk Racing TE37 Wheels = $1,135
Falken Tires = $155
Volk Lug Nuts = $135
Tanabe Springs = $160
Hotchkis Hollow F&R Sway Bars = $185
Circuit Racing Front Lower Sub Frame Brace = $150
Circut Racing Rear Subframe Brace = $70
DC Sport Upper Swaybar = $85

Total cost* = $15,530.
*Price does not take into account S&H or install cost if needed.

Total cost + 10% Tax** = $17,083.
**10% Tax is just a easy number to deal with.

So as you can see I would get much more for much less. Now that kit your getting does run something like $1,500 I think but my cost would still be only a little greater then what they want.

Well, here's how they broke it down for me:

The xa MSRP is $13780. Its factory accesories are: rear spoiler, amber
interior led light enhancments.

Aftermarket accesories are: Apperance Pkg ($3,399)- kensyle body kit, 18"
Devino 602's with Niche tires, and 2" lowering springs
by Sprint.

Injen air intake system ($285)
DC sport headers($399)
DC strut tower bar ($195)

The total price as it is equiped is $18,248 + 299 +
tax.

The body kit is $1,700 installed from what they told me. I really want the Fabulous gen 2 full body kit, which would be about $2500 installed if I can get it.

Kind Regards,
Matt

I can see with that break down. Some of the cost for the parts that the dealer has on there is a little high. I guess if you didnt want to install the stuff your self it makes it better. Also if you just want to tie it all into your finance then thats good.

Well, I did it. The proud owner of a 2005 xA, KenStyle body kit, headers, intake, 2" lowering springs, wheels, tires, etc. It is the only one like it that I know of here in the Colorado Springs, Denver area, and really changes everyone's perception of the Scion. If I could figure out how to post a picture I would. She's really a looker and I'm real happy to be a new Scion owner.

Anyway, now I'm on to gutting the vehicle to get ready for my competition audio install. I have 4 RE XXX 10's, 2 RE MT 18's, 2 Tru SH-1 amps, 4 Atomic 1500.1 amps, 2 Xtant 1.1i amps and 5 yellow tops to figure out how to install. Might have to rethink all of that, I might go with 16 8" subs to save on weight, not sure.

Oh, and major props to John Elway Scion in Denver for building my car. They even drove 60 miles to deliver it personally to me. I would highly recommend doing business with these folks if you are in the area.

Kind Regards,
Matt

I like the way that xA of yours looks. I dont know about those wheels though. They seem a little funny on a xA.

Other than the stickers and maybe the wheels, I think it looks great!
