Default Please Help!!

Hey everybody, Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem. I have a 2005 scion xa and it was driving perfectly fibe and then I turned into a gas station and stopped, when I started to go again the engine stalled, so I put it in part and started it again, Good so far, put it into drive and it stalled again, I repeated this several times but stalled every time. I had it towed to Toyota. The technician came out and opened my hood, reached inside and then closed the hood. He then got into my car and drove into the shop with no problem or stalling. My car was in the shop about 30 minutes, then they drove it back out with no problem or stalling again. They again reached under the hood and closed it, then they told me that I need a new transmission. Can someone please tell me why I need a new transmission if Toyota was able to drive it just fine?

Does your car have a manual/standard transmission or automatic?

Usually, stalling is caused by something with the engine, not the transmission, unless it's a manual/standard and the clutch is slipping.

But the engine runs fine. It's just when I try to put it into gear It stalls.

Is your check engine light on? If so, I would check for codes on a scanned. I would definitely take it somewhere else, other than a dealer, to get a second opinion. Some times it's hard to diagnose the problem without it being right in front of you.

I, personally, would have started out with checking the battery to make sure the posts are clean, then I'd have it tested, then have the alternator tested. If you don't have much experience on working with cars, definitely get a second opinion.

It has a brand new battery and I pulled the code and it was the code for the torque converter. So I didn't know if I could just put a new torque converter or if it needs a whole new transmission.

I'm not too familiar with transmission, but I'm pretty sure you can just replace the torque converter without having to replace or rebuild the transmission.
