Scion xA as future collector car
I think the low mileage RS1 tC 5-speed will be a future collector car. I doubt the xA will make it into the collector category simply because of the demand. The RS xB will be a collector before the xA - the xB outsold the xA by a huge margin. If people didn't want it then, why would they want it in 30 years?
I think they will be around a long time
But not in the same catagory as the classics. y the way a tC was auctioned off the other day for over $35K on an HD show. Dunno the name but it was VERY diff. to the whole corvette, mustang, SS themes going on.

PS: This is all assuming we are saying the US is the only say in classic cars
The Japanese have there own idea of what is a classic as well and the Germans and so on
Is there even a universal classic car category that every culture agrees upon? Jsut fruit for thought, not arguing any point or anything really.

They love there Toyotas and Nissans as well. There VIPStyle shows and such are allot more big budget than those vids. So I have seen online so far.
Still I can see and can't argue about the power of the Classic US car

Oh I'm sure I'll drive mine until it stops on me. My '97 3.0 CL has 260k on it and it's my Friday car currently. I'll never get rid of that car, I'd rather do an engine and tranny swap and start all over...and I'm sure I'll be the same way with the xA.
xB I think will be like the original beetle in time. It didn't start but popularized a movement here with the boxy, large interior, small displacement vehicle now duplicated both in functionality and style by other manufacturers. For that reason it has some historical significance. Also, it was pretty much the face of the Scion brand, and typifies the Scion culture, you can go nuts with it and do things pretty unheard of in any other vehicle. My xB has bamboo flooring and a 400cc motorcycle inside. The xB will also be rare because it's going to be hard to find one still stock in 20 years.
Then again, you never can predict these things that well. When the split-window '63Corvette stingray came out for one year only, the next year owners took it to the shop and had the split window removed so it would look like the '64 and improve visability, dropping at least $5k off of current collector prices in the process. Also, I'm pretty sure no one expected the VW Type 181 "Thing" to be a collector car, which sells at Barrett-Jackson for $40k.

in this month's car and driver, they talked about how the jaguar x-type wagon, and lexus is300 sportcross (wagon) are exotics because they only sold 1602, and 3088 respectively in the US, while the bentley continental GT has sold 6860 in the US. so does that mean the xa will be an exotic collector car? do you see people desparately trying to find a jaguar x-type wagon anywhere...ever?
The US has historically been pretty frigid toward hatches, and I haven't seen a successful wagon since the original Taurus (the Magnum marginally so). I'm not a big fan of Car & Driver, they seem to have a bias toward German manufacturers, and pretty much everything they review is 30k+, I like to read reviews of cars I'd actually be able to drive.
The xA I still don't see achieving collector or cult status because it just doesn't break the mold enough. It's got better lines and fascia than the Echo but still holds the jellybean shape typical of other hatches; it just doesn't stand apart enough from the Yaris, Versa, Fit, etc.

they do a lot of mainstream vehicle comparisons too. and while i have to admit, they do have their bias towards honda and bmw, they post all the objective information there, and a good amount of pictures so you can draw your own conclusion. all car magazines have their own culture and values about them when they review cars that can make them alittle more bias. but i've subscribed to many difference car magazines and just seem to prefer car and driver's lay out more.
automobile magazine seems to care more about cars from the styling standpoint, and it is neat to see their notes about how and why cars are styled the way they are, it seems they care more about looks than the rest of the car. motortrend tends to be alittle too technical for my liking. some of their explanations i get, and some i don't. road and track is alright, but i don't care much about all the motorsports they write about.
as for testing cars that are too expensive, i never ever mind them doing that. i mean, lets face it, on any given day, you can go to any dealership and test drive all the sub 30k or even sub 40k dollar cars and make your own comparisions and conclusions. but nobody is going to let you test drive a bentley, a rolls, a lambo, or an AMG mercedes unless you have some serious money.

One measure of how collectible a car will be: do your kids want one?
I had a cube for a week last month. My kids loved it.
