thinking of getting scion xa
hey all. New here. Great forum. Currently drive a 2006 coroola LE 4 speed auto. Situations have come up that reuire I need a truck or hatchback. Looking into the XA 5 speed manual cause better on gas, etc. Need it to haul mulch around, chainsaw, weedwhacker, leaf blower, large to meduim size boxes with stuff in them, mountain bike. WEIll it be bale to carry all this stuff.
Thanks.
Thanks.
You might be better off looking at the xB or a Honda Fit. While I fell in love with the xA, one of the places I was dissapointed was cargo room, especially when compared with the Fit I was also considering. The Fit has more seat configurations including 'long mode' where you can fold down the passenger seat for long items like a week wacker (which I don't even think would fit in an xA - at least not comfortably.)
The xA has OK storage space if you fold the rear seats down, but the xB or even Honda Fit does have more.
However, if you are going to haul mulch around, I would think a compact pickup would work better. It doesn't seem like a hatchback would be ideal for hauling mulch.

I think the Matrix is definitely a better vehicle for hauling the stuff you are talking about. I think it has more of a plastic rear hatch area which would be better for carrying stuff like mulch.
I don't think the Fit is going to be much better than the xA as a work vehicle. It has alot more cargo room with the rear seats in place and a little more room if the seats are folded forward. It definitely has more flexible cargo space, but it still isn't what I would consider a good work vehicle for hauling stuff.

Friends of mine have a Matrix and love it. But don't discount the Pontiac Vibe. Besides a few minor cosmetic differences, the Matrix and Vibe are the exact same car.
The Toyota will cost you a little more but will probably have a higher resale value than the Pontiac. Although, if you're like me and will drive the car for the majority of its life, resale value is a moot point.
