Default WTF?! car died...

Alright, I drove to the store, and went back home, then about 15-20 mins later I tried to leave again, got about 1/4 mile if that, and the car shut off.

When I took off, I had to make a U-turn from one curb, and a truck was comming so I launched a lil hard, got up to about 5k in 2nd, and the car stopped accelerating, and the engine died, I have enough speed to coast to the side but the engine was dead. I tried to start it up again right away with little luck. Started , but died about 5-10 secs later.

Called AAA for a tow, found out it was gonna be $72 to tow it, said F that... ...I tried it again about 20mins after initial prob and Hey it's workin! Went back out with my dad (mechanic) he looked and listened, and we drove it around, it works fine (under 30mph, didn't go higher)

Anyone else have this problem?
Thanx in advance
B

THis shouldn't happen to new car...but sometime you have a faulty fuel gauge and fuel may be low or empty...it happpens.

I would take it to the dealer for a code reading. it will tell you precisely what's wrong. but before you go there, unplug the battery and let it sit for 5 mins to reset computer. Try to drive the car again to see if it still giving problem. if it does proceed to the dealer and demand answers.

Was it sputtered, backfire or rev up unexprectedly?

i agree, no new car should be doing that. even if you bounce it off the limiter, it should still remain running. is you CEL on?

xola3que: Fuel gauge has worked fine since I got the car, Out of those three choices it would be sputter, but it felt like the car was out of gas, the way it just died...faster fastTER FASTER Stopping like full engine brakeing. I'll check the battery tomorrow, but like I said, It worked fine about an hour later, although I didn't get it over 30-40mph.

Painter: The CEL came on when it died, but that's it, haven't seen it since.

Thanks again guys

Go get that code read right now!!! Auto Zone will read it for free....it might be as simple as you starved the fuel pump, but you need to know for sure. If it's important, then take it to the stealer.

And next time, call me, I got AAA Gold...free tows....Now, convincing them I'm in CA might be tuff.....

Anyway, "Pass, No error" or whatever she wasn't throwing any codes. I took her to the dealer anyway, incase it was a mech. problem. The tech said, "It only happend once? It's running fine now? It could have been anything, if it happens again or becomes a problem, bring it back here." So I went to work...

I guess she's fine.

Damn cars are like human beings, anything could make them go cuckoo. Glad to hear that that the xA is fine, for now.

How much fuel was in the tank when you turned you car around?

If there wasn't much in there, and you made a mad turn you may have starved the fuel pump of fuel which could be a reason your car died. I had this same issue happen in my Focus and it sucks.

I have made some sharp turns in my xA with the fuel at or below a quarter of a tank but not enough to make the fuel pump suck in air instead of fuel.

Try to replicate it if you fuel tank is still low.

My car died tonight, and it isnt restarting. Was driving doing 60-65 and there seemed to be a little pop, and then the car had no acceleration. For a couple of seconds the air bag light came on, but no check engine light. After I coasted to the side I attempted to restart with no luck, not even a clicking from the starter trying to engage. Another friend stopped to help, but he had no luck either, ended up getting it towed home, gotta wait til monday to take it to the shop.
