xA: Bastard brother of the xB?
Hi all,
After checking out the forums I notice most stuff seems to be about the xB or that the xB is the default scion when you ask a question. I really want an xA and I don't dig the box look. Actually I plan on getting one in 2 weeks
Anyway is there more stuff/support for the xB and the xA is trickling in? I want alot of the same aftermarket options as the xB gets. Right now anyway it seems easier to find xB stuff.
Thanks
LV

Actually the xB is suppose to be the bastard brother of the xA from what I heard. I heard from a Scion Accessory Manager that in due time the xB would be phased out and the xA was suppose to be the main stay.
But I guess after the popular sales of the xB that won't be happening anytime soon. It's all good though, the xA has to be one of the tightest imports I have ever seen this side of the ocean when it's fixed up with the exception of Project Yellow Bondo.

The ratio of xAs to xBs is supposed to be somewhere around 35%/65% so it would make sense to appeal to the larger crowd. It seems like most things are available. Is there something specific you are looking for?
They didn't seem to have any trouble tricking this one out:

I think maybe even cooler. I got the xB cause frankly I got a big butt and fit the xB a bit better. As there are fewer of the xA's they is even kewler I think.
I moo (er honk) at all Scions BTW.

xa's are pretty cool id say. the interior fit and finish is very nice and more thoughtfull than the xb. Unfortunately the interior space on the xb (along with the exterior styling of course) is a serious trump card against the xa. the xa also has a better color selection and is a somewhat faster car. the back seat is pretty much a joke compared to the xb. but the lower pricepoint is great!
two different cars for two different people. i would say at first i was quick to dismiss the xA but that was a grossly uninformed position. i think as time goes by and especially if the honda fit becomes an american reality the xA's popularity is bound to increase with direct competition.

Only reason I got the xA is cuz I saw that dark grayish one in the showroom at longo w/ the kenstyle kit and cf hood ... i was like "wow .. you can do that to a scion???" plus i looked at the price and it was VERY affordable.
I was lookin at a celica gts at first ... but the main reason for gettin a new car was to fix it up yet not have cops on ur ___ all day. I used to own a tricked out del sol w/ the basics (interior, body kit, rims, sounds, suspension, boltons) and was gettin too familiar with the court system. Sooo the xA was the best thing ..

I think the xB is doing so well now is because it's so different . The xA is more of a traditional vehicle. People compare it to the mini, the Echo sedan, and so on. It has an interior that is about the size you'd expect from a car that big (or small) on the outside. The xB looks tiny outside, but is cavernous on the inside. Plus, it looks like nothing else sold in the US.
the xB is better because there is more room inside or it than the xA. I like the xA and all, but if I would ever need to move anything or put anything large in the trunk, there would be no room in the xA (even with the seats down). Those extra couple of inches on the xB are huge.
yet I've managed to move with my xA... it's all about what you're like... I like a tiny, reasonably responsive little transport. I can drive nearly like I'm in a motorcycle in traffic, get a bit more gas mileage and literally don't see 4-6 of my car each way on the way to work... Yes the xB was what I originally planned to get, but I came to the conclusion that everyone was probably going to get it, so I looked to other cars (GTI, Jetta, Focus SVT, Acura Integra 4 door) before realizing the xA was what I wanted. It is about personal choice.
back on topic, as for the parts, I would say be patient, a lot of stuff is interchangeable (minus body kits of course and a few other pieces) but those are slowly starting to trickle over from Japan and will be more common as these cars spread across the country

as far as i understand the bB was out in japan about a year longer than the ist. sales for the xB seem to be slowing down and the xA picking up. it seems like the novelty of the xB is wearing off just a little. but, all in all, the xB has a lot more for the money. traction control and vehicle stability being the two major things (besides the size of the interior). anyways, in my opinion, the xA is a better car based on potential. the xB seems kinda limited in how much you can mold it to your liking. just my take anyways. but, the other thing about the aftermarket support, i think the bB was much more popular for the kids in japan. nothing like it, they have the vitz there, which is extremely popular and very similar to the ist......
The xB was first and it will be the first one phased out. The xA is a newer design which is why it has the option of the side air curtains. It was built from the ground up to have them and the xB was not.
Neither one will have a long shelf life. It is Toyota's plan to never have a single model last for more than 3 years. It is this constant turnover that will keep demand high enough to get away with pure pricing.
