Hi all,
Was just lookign around the web and came upon this:
http://ca.autos.yahoo.com/030623/11/tm81.html
They are strikingly similiar though the nose of the echo is weird looking
And I do like that red 2 door model. Just thought I throw this out there any thoughts?

Echo would have been my first choice, if only it was sold in the US.
Its about 8k when transfered in US dollars which would leave a lot of room for adding mods to the car.
But since it's only sold in Canada, and the Scions are only sold in the US, we have no choice about it.
It's power is similar to the Scion, but since it is so much lighter, it gets better milage and a better hp/wgt speed ratio

i've always been a big fan of the echo hatch... and we might be getting them after all... i saw this from consumerguide.com...
"... Toyota is said to have a redesigned Echo ready for 2005, led by hatchback models to supplement or maybe replace notchback sedans. This looks to us like a curious duplication that could undermine Scion, but it also suggests how serious Toyota is about cracking the youth market..."

I like the look of the xA better but I dig the red 3 door in the pic.
I like the 3 door hatch of the focus too.
But I dig on the xA too, if only it would come in Red!

Someone suggested that each Scion model will have a limited run. Maybe the Echo hatchback will appear on the tailend of the xA run. Not much overlap maybe.
The xA is like a little SUV though, with the more vertical and higher seating, and thus road visibility.
Somebody else here mentioned they wanted more lumbar support on the xA seats -- they need to adjust the seat more vertical.
I think it's improperly adjusted seat.
I find the xA seating configuration totally different.
I imagine this and other things inside that make the 2 cars different.
But the engine is sweet though
This is why I would totally get an Echo - now that I know the engine.
In the meantime, this I imagine is an '05 Echo: (pick the COLOR tab)

(I can't upload a picture huh?)

The Echo sedan is actually LIGHTER than the hatch.. so if you were looking for the best power to weight ratio, the sedan would be your best bet.
I really liked the hatch, and was strongly considering buying one, but went with the sedan instead and I'm glad I did. Though they're fun little cars, they have significantly limited trunk space and no middle seat in the back. Canadian safety laws, etc. forced a lot of design changes to the hatch that significantly decreased its function.
The UK and Australia models are far superior.
