Default 05 XB wierd noise

Hi...
For last a couple 1000's miles my lovely xB makes under it's hood noise, annoying one.
For first I was sure that steering power pump bearing is out of order.
But finally, today I bought a stethoscope, touched PS pump and.. nothing...
From underneath I touched A/C compressor - bingo!
This is that part of my scion what makes that noise.
A/C works perfect, Is still hot in Chicagoland, A/C works every day.
Any suggestion ?
should I look for whole compressor ?(+/-300$)
or just should change a bearing(s)?
Tnx

It could be your belt causing the noise. I'm having that problem right now (among others). Make sure its tight enough and check the grooves for cracks, if you can see them.

I think I'm gonna switch to Gatorback belts. I've read they're quieter.

You could be having some other problems with your compressor but it would be awesome to find out it's only the belt.

Let us know how it turns out.

Default it is not a belt noise.

A few weeks... maybe 2-3 months ago I tightened my snake belt spinning on alternator and compressor,
belt noise is much different (squeaks) that noise is coming out of my Scion's compressor.
Right now it is pretty close to the sound of loosed bearing(s) inside.
And.... it never "rings" all the time...
time to time i hear nothing at all
time to time there is series of them...RPMs up - noise is more frequent
RPMs down it is going down too. - like a broken bearing.
sometimes I hear it once , twice per second, then disappear ..
then bells again..
When I start engine it bells really bad, then after a few seconds it goes to the lower part of volume .
This is not a snake belt noise for sure.

It was water pump, @ 85ooo miles went to grinding noise, I changed it yesterday. The noise is gone. 3-31/2 man hrs worked. Very tight room, but with an engine raised few inches there was no probs at all.
