Default 2004 auto trans failure

2004 xB w auto trans & 103k miles.
Going down the freeway at 70mph the engine reved up like the car popped out of gear, put it in neutral and back into drive, no drive, pulled off the freeway, no drive, no reverse, no 1 or 2, grinding noise when I put it into park. When I was coasting to a stop the transmission was making clunking noises. Under the car, a couple of steady streams of tranny fluid were leaking out under the drivers side of the car inline with the front wheels.

Had the car towed to a shop, it's late Saturday afternoon and won't find out what the damage is until Monday.

Has anyone had an auto transmission w similar issues? If yes, what was the fix and how much did it set you back?

With the sounds it made during coasting and the volume of fluid under the car and on the wrecker flatbed I'm expecting to hear the tranny is cooked.
I'll post back what I hear and pay.

ouch. i would say the trans is done. no flush is going to fix that.

price depends on labor and if you want a brand new tranny or buy a rebuilt one or even a used one.

Sounds like an axle half-shaft let go or something, for fluid to come out. Usually autos start slipping and gradually get worse to the point where the car won't move, but this sounds like something literally broke. Maybe something on the roadway got caught under the tranny and punched a hole through the case (thus letting the fluid out)? Let us know what the diagnosis is.

That's it? No noises for the last few months or slipping that got worse over time?

Update - lucked out and it was only the drivers side CV joint that let loose, replaced that side drive shaft and it's good to go. I mistakenly thought all the auto trans fluid leaking was because the tranny blew. The car is low to the ground and I couldn't see underneath, I guess when the CV joint broke it allowed fluid to come out and it did in a big way. Axle, fluid, labor out of town and need it quick fee included came to $467.00. I'm sure I overpaid by almost double. it sucks being stuck.
