I think CARB only matters if you live in California

it's because they added the charcoal filter like on the tC to the '06's and above for the xA and xB...

thus removal of that will not have it CARB approved.

CARB applies obviously in California, but is implemented in many other states.. the only way to be sure is to check your local and state laws.

i think NY is a place too... fyi, inversed. you should check.

Don't worry about CARB approved unless you live in CA. If you get annual vehicle inspections, you should always know what's being checked. CA does a visual inspection of emissions components. Always keep the stock parts so you can swap them back when you sell or trade.

In VA, they do tailpipe (or now I think they hook up the computer). An aftermarket intake won't make you fail that emissions test. But there's no way it could pass with a turbo.

I just ordered a Fujita short ram. I hope it's ok. The main reason was the vent hose connects after the mass airflow sensor like it does with the stock air box. Almost all the others move it in front so it's possible the sensor could get contaminated. It was also cheaper than Injen or K&N - $139.99 and free shipping on eBay. The Volant looked interesting, but too expensive and a lot of space in the engine compartment. Not sure if it would get in the way working on my xB or of some future upgrade.

It is all about the little charcoal filter Toyota decided to install for the 2006 model year.

Just keep in mind, if you buy an intake that is CARB approved for '04-'05 you are still going to get the CARB sticker for your '06. Unless a cop, smog shop, or inspector investigates the CARB number vs. your vehicle year you'll be safe. And even if they do find an issue, you can probably get out of any fines through plausible deniability. (No evidence that you actually knew the intake wasn't CARB certified for your year vehicle.)

I just posted every single CARB legal intake for the xB in a post on here last week. Fujita had nothing approved as of yet. This doesn't mean that they don't have one pending. I am sure you will see a whole bunch of CARB E/O numbers show up on their products at the same time. When that will happen is anyone's guess.
