I can't find it now but there was an article that was dynoing some axlebacks and they ran it without the muffler to test and they lost 3 HP.

BTW, you can unbolt it just in front of the rear wheels, don't cut!

well if you go underneith your car, around where your floor shifter is, you will see these two funny looking canister things, if you cut above those, where your header meast that pipe, and run a flowmaster free flow cat with 2.25" pipe the whole way back to an HLS muffler, you get 10 horses, i got her dynoed, but cant find the chart file anywhere

Are you talking about our vehicles for torque and noise or all vehicles in general. I have been using flowMasters for over 20 years and have had great success with there products. I had an increase in HP and torque.

When I installed my airride, I test drove it around the block a couple times without my axle back. I diffently noticed a loss of power, especially on the very low end. Although it wasn't much louder then the axle back I run, up to about 4k. I guess the mid pipe is restrictive enough to not make it sound like a tank.

Believe it or not, we tested this too. There was no gain at all with a stock scion, and the sound was horrible at freeway speeds. Not mention that when we removed the muffler, it blackened the whole underside of the car. It was hilarious! Nothing but a fart can when the muffler is removed.

well they may gain hp over stock restrictive exhaust but i bet you're changing out more than just the muffler aka pipes...... just about any upgrade is good over stock...

compare some magnaflow ss series or any magnaflow on a v8 versus the flowmaster...

the magna's will have more hp less tq

the flow's will have more torque and less hp

that is just comparing them with another..

people prefer the sound of say a 30 or 40 series street or race flowmaster. i personally do not...

the sound and the connontation of high flow characteristics in flowmasters name are why people buy flows..

flowmasters are good for drag cars like a heavy chevelle.... and gas powered motorhomes where you need a lot of grunt.

funny, everyone in socal who went to the longo sponsored scion drag race at irwindale a month ago got to hear my COMPLETELY stock xB with stock intake and headers connecting to a 1 foot pipe aiming straight down at the ground with no muffler...(just a 2" steel pipe)...rape at the tracks. I won best e.t. and tied fastest times with a guy who had spent like 2k on bolt ons to his xB (intake, header, exhaust, clutch, flywheel, pulleys, etc...) not to mention the turbo, supercharged, nos xB's AND tCs whos times I beat...not to ge cocky, just saying that the mufflerless topic is questionable.

Ask any of the Scion Evo guys that were there...or actually ask ANYONE who was there because everyone heard my car from a mile away not to mention seeing me get the award.
