Beware of cold air intakes

Beware of cold air intakes
Driving home at night after a rain had come through the area, didn't see the water in a low area in the road.
I bought this car used and it had a cold air intake with the filter down by the front of the driver wheel.
What a mistake to have not replaced this and put the OEM air box back on the engine.
Engine drew in about a quart of water and hydrolocked. End result, new engine.
Not saying they are all bad, just beware.

The same general principle applies to intakes as it does to intake runners and exhausts...
Long tube = torque
Short tube = HP
Long Tube Headers = More Torque
Shorties = HP
Another example.
Why do you think race cars have extremely short runners with individual throttle bodies. High revving / High horsepower.
You = Wrong.

nope i aint wrong with my cai i lost bottom end power when my engine was up to temp
with my hot air intake i gained my bottom end power
and i have 4-1 header magnaflow resonator, 12 inch cherry bomb glass pack resonator and a turbo muffler
its the combo of parts that makes it right
and i don't even drive a xB tC or xD been there done that

If you guys are talking SRI v CAI for the xB, its a complete waste since most of the intakes on the market for the xB is exactly the same.....only diff is the position of the filter is afew inches off.
If you're talking about SRI v CAI like the TRD and Injen that snakes around the engine bay, than CAI owns the SRI. I use to have the Injen intake and I ran it first as a short ram, than went to the full cold air and the cold air intake pulls so much harder and sounds so much better. The cold air when metering it with my Scanguage was pulling in temperatures close to ambient temperature for that day. With the short ram you're sucking in hot engine bay air, sometimes as much as 150*F on a hot summer day in traffic. You definintly loose power, u don't gain any bottom end since there's so much heatsoak you're alway boggin at low rpm. When you're driving for afew minutes and he engine bay has a chance to get rid of the excess heat is when you feel more pep. The Cold air just pulls from idle to redline, period.

( and to see how many attempts are made at thread jacking)
And I have had a CAI for almost 100k miles ( since first week of ownership)
I am a puddle jumper , like splashing as much water as possible on the side of the road.
I have never, repeat never hydrolocked my motor, are you guys driving through Bikini Bottom to visit Sponge Bob ?

^yeah, rain season is just around the corner, and you can buy a bypass valve but you will have to chop up your intake to install, the only CAI that come with them is the TRD and AEM intakes!

i have the injen rd cai that converts to a sri. i go cai in the summer and sri in the winter. CAI OWNS SRI!!! just better all around.....and i also watch for puddles while driving injen makes a hydroshield sock for the intake cone that helps prevent water intake. its not gonna help if u bury it in a puddle, but definitely works against road spray and all that stuff
