Default Break in period for air intake??

Hi,

I just installed an intake system into my xB (injen).

I followed the YDR directions (excellet).

I took my girlfriend for a spin, and she noticed a funny smell coming from the xB. I followed the directions precisely, and doubled checked my work.

Is there a break-in period because it's new? I just don't see any misplaced clamps, or even loose clamps. It seems perfect.

Please let me know...

Thanks,

PF

There were no smells after my Injen install, it is a polished pipe, there is not much then can burn. Did you leave a rag somewhere? Is the smell electrical? It is skunk season again... just kidding

I never smelled anything....

And no break in period. Did you get lube on anything that will burn? Did you make sure and reconnect all of the vacum hoses?

The first time new parts heat up they will sometimes give off a slight odor. Keep an eye on it but the smell should go away shortly.

"jethro_b" I hope you’re right. This is my first mod to any car, so I hope it’s right.

Installing an air intake seemed quite easy.

After removing the stock unit, I connected the intake to the throttle body.
Mounted the VSV unit.
Screwed the mass air unit to the intake
Finally intake>hose>oil diffusing filter>hose> crankcase valve
I used one clamp per connection.
That’s it! I don’t think I’m missing anything.

Maybe I’m just being paranoid. I’ll see if the smell dissipates over the next 1-2 days.
I just don’t won’t my xB to blow up.

Everytime I installed performance parts to my car I've always reset my ECU. It's something acustomary (sp) to me.

We call that adaptation in human psychology. The smel actually is still there it's just that you're used to it so much that it doesnt bother you anymore.

You didn't say if you smelled it. Was it only your girl that did? Is it possible that you had some bad food or you could blame it on the dog. After my install There was not any smell produced, by the car or me.

smells are all part of modding....now if it still is funky after 50 to 100 or so miles then start to worry.

I was wondering I just bought an 06 xb and they told me I couldn't use the injen is2100 short ram intake because it had diffrent mounting brakets and wasn't approved by injen for the 05/06 models that it would set a check engine light or something similar. Is this physcially possible or were they just being stupid? On top of all that they said it would void the factory warranty to install it wtf???

There should be no smell. No parts of the intake get hot enough to create a smell.

Check step 15 and 24 in my DIY for proper connection of the crankcase valve hoses.

I just got an 06' xB as well and I've had no problems with compatibility of parts ranging from 03' xB parts to 05' xB parts. And this includes an AEM CAI listed as for 03' , Header listed for an 04', and an axle back exhaust for an 05'. All fit perfectly. (No CEL after any installs) No problems at all on my Camo 06'.

Ok excellent thank you very much. I am wondering though if the IS2100 injen short ram intake would have a diffrent VSV mounting area for the 05-06 xB's but so far no response from them yet, I am gunna just buy it.
