Default check engine light

My check engine light was on. A friend of mine works on BMWs and has an OBDII reader and found that it says the cam gear (b i think it said but im not positive) was too retarded. The car is runnign fine and the light went out. The car is still under warrantee and i had already made an appointment so i took it in. They charged me $110 for the diagnostic and wouldnt warantee it since they found the code but nothing wrong with the car and the light wasnt on. ____ed off but not much i could do. SO my light has come back on and here is my question: Has anyone had this same problem? Is it just the Cam Gear Sensor? I can get one of those for $101 ($9 less than the jerks at Toyota charged to tell me what i had already told them). I dont want to replace it though if it may be soemthing else. If anyone has seen this issue id appreciate anything you know. btw the cars a 2004 with 60k. Thanks

If I was you, I would go up there and give them hell about it. NO WAY I would have paid that.

There are quite a few people on the site who have had the problem. Do some searching and reading. It seems like when most people see that code it is an issue with a vvt-i component not actually the cam gear or camshaft position sensor. If your car is still under warranty the dealership should not be charging you anything. I would call Scion and find a new dealership.
