Default Cold air intake and mpg

Simple question here: Does the mpg get worse with the cold air intake ? Could you feel a difference in performance ? Does it make a loud sound ?

Sorry for the question, but I always had stock cars and since I got the xB, I started to play a little with modifications, anyway, can you help a beginner ?

My last question, I planning in getting a AEM and take it to a dealer to install, any experience doing that ?

You will feel a performance gain with a cold air intake. You will also hear the intake when you get on the gas pedal. Your foot will get heavy after the install. So your gas mileage will suffer in the begining .Unless you have your heart set on getting the AEM intake. I would go with the Injen intake because it's proven. Also it's easy to install so you could do it yourself, and save yourself some money for other mods.

I have th e AEM cold air intake. It made a nice difference. I gained about 2mpg on the highway and 1? mpg around town. It runs much more smooth through accelleration.

It does give you better MPG, but most people will hammer down on the gas pedal when they first install it. The first couple tanks will suffer when driving the car in that manner. After you start to drive the car normal again. You will notice an increase in your MPG.

I have the AEM CAI hard to change the filter and would suggest getting the by pass option. have not really noticed any increase or decrease in performance but it and the dc header are my only mods

I have been waiting to hear that the mpg shows gains with a CAI. Thanks for the feedback. I want one and will get one next year.

The noise level isn't really that bad if you're not getting on the gas like what was said above...

As far as the extent of the noise it really depends on the brand of intake you get...some are more troaty sounding than others some are quieter just like with performance exhausts.... hope this helps a little!!!

it's not loud enough to get you pulled over if that's what you're worried about...

with aem cold air intake, I get 310 miles per fill.

310 mile / 9.5 gallon to fill up = 32.63 miles/gallon
