Default DC Muffler question for RS02

My RS02 came with a tunable DC muffler. Problem is I can't seem to figure out how to tune it.
The muffler came with a part that when inserted into the muffler and turned to the left will quiet it down. When turned to the right it will make it louder. (this is what the prep guy at the dealer told me) I inserted the piece long end first and it just kept spinning inside the muffler. So I'm baffled as to how this works.
If anybody can suppy info or better yet pictures of how this works it would be appreciated.
Thank you,
CodyCat

You were misinformed. Mine came with 2 different inserts. The larger was installed when I picked it up. It gives a nice rumble. The other insert has a smaller diameter tube which when installed will make the exhaust quiter. The reason yours is spinning is because the bolt was not installed properly. It should extend throughthe hole in the outer ring of the insert. It takes 2 13mm wrenches to remove/replace the bolt. A quick tip, insert the long part of the tube into the muffler. Use two fingers slipped into the tube and a third against the bolt hole. This way you can feel the bolt hole and the end of the bolt as you drop the bolt into place from the top. By spreading the two fingers, you are able to spin or move the insert as needed. The second insert was under the right side floor panel in the trunk area of mine.

"The smaller insert" is known as a silencer. They say "tune" to grab your attention. You can either have the silencer in, or the silencer out. However, you can't actually "tune" it.

Also, you don't turn it left to right. You either take it completely off, or you can leave it installed. Either way, its not "tuning" anything.

I guess the one that was installed in mine is the quiet one. I didn't realize that there were two inserts because I only saw the one under the panel in the rear hatch.
I see that a bolt runs through the tailpipe of the muffler, so I guess this was the way it was installed at the factory or the dealer.
So putting the other insert into the tailpipe and spinning is useless I guess. I called the dealer this afternoon and they too weren't sure what the extension was for or how to tune it.

If you have pictures of the 2 different extensions, please post them.
thanks......

You don't tune it. The inner piece thats removeable is a silencer. Its function is to "silence" the tone of the exhaust by restricting airflow. When the silencer is in, it won't be any louder than a stock muffler. When you take it out, its a little louder. That particular exhaust, isn't the same (so i've heard) from the DC aftermarket one. Therefore, power gains are much like the TRD exhausts are basically non-existant. You can't tune it, sometimes the dealership is useless...

Looking into my muffler, I can see that the inset silencer is there. There is a bolt with a screw behind the insert stopping it from leaving the muffler.

Now I have this second silencer that came in the rear hatch in a plastic bag.

If the silencer is already installed, then why did they give me another one?

You would think the dealers who sell these vehicles would know their stuff, but they don't...LOL

Silencers have been known to fall out while driving on interstates. It hasn't happend that often, but stories are there. They probably gave you another one incase you take it out and lose it, or it somehow just falls off.

If you want to leave it in there, i recommend giving it a quick check (after the car has cooled down or before you start it) every 1,000 miles just to make sure its not lose.

ok to clear up the whole situation for good,
there are 2 silencers, 2!
there is a large one and a small one
they each have to flanges as to which the bolt can be put through and tightened
you put the larger one all the way into the exhaust, use WD-40, it needs to be pushed all the way in so it is properly secured or you can bolt that one
then put in the smaller one in the front and bolt it in
you take them both out, like mine, and you get a good rimble
ok, thats it

The cars come from the factory with the louder "silencer" of the two installed in the muffler already. If you replaced it with the one that came in the car's glovebox, it will silence the car further. If you take out the one that's in the exhaust have have both silencers off the exhaust it will be louder.
