Default DC Sports muffler on RS 2.0

When we picked ours up two weeks ago, the sales guy haned me a silver object in a plastic bag and said, "Here's your muffler silencer incase you ever want to make it quiet." I kinda like the way it sounds without it, so we haven't insatlled it at all. Here's my question: Is it a choice between none at all and totally silenced, or can that "silencer" be tuned in some way to vary the sound? Thanks!

Well, there are 3 sounds you can get... No silencer installed, which is pretty loud and aggressive...the 'medium' silencer that calms it down a bit...and then the very restrictive smaller one that makes it about the same volume as a regular muffler. FYI - for long trips, use the QUIET one...because at or a little over 3k RPM, the interior will be resonating and be quite loud..and it will get on your nerves for extended periods of time. I travel a lot and I use the QUIET baffle for trips and every other time, I don't have a baffle installed at all. I love the way it sounds unbaffled, but on trips, the drone is just damn annoying. I am -very- pleased with the DC Sports muffler and love having the options it gives as far as sound.

That is a GREAT tip. Thank you! I honestly don't know if I would have thought of that. How hard is it to install the baffles? Is it quick?

Super fast. It's like a 13mm open ended wrench to remove a single nut/bolt. (I think it's 13mm. It will tell you in the DC Sports documentation that came with your baffles, or you can just try to see what fits.) You can change the baffles in less than 5 minutes no problem...and that's even being very careful to keep your hands clean. Just be very careful and let it cool down for a while before you try to change it...the tip might not be hot, but the baffles get -very- hot and you'll burn yourself if you're not careful.

that's right. I just leave the restrictive one in all of the time now. I don't find it makes -any- power penalty noticable in street running.

would like to make a novelty pop corn popper attachment (my own invention) for my DC Sports Mufffer.
The optional silencer should prove very convenient for this fun and amazing crowd pleaser!

So, I like the DC sports muffler. Crunchy or buttered?

Would you like the caramel corn or the Carbon Monoxide corn?

here's another solution, sound deaden the rear doors and the hatch. it kills the drone from the DC muffler at highway speeds. I've done my doors and hatch, and i'm loving it. still have to do the floor and wheel well humps tho.

yeah, it's more work, but it's a global solution to sound reduction in our cars

I do, too, but it wears after a while. I really like to stealth around residential neighborhoods, speedy at night (enjoying tires, not breaking speed limits) but I don't like to annoy people asleep.

Ok, now for fun:

the POPCorn maker! I first made this up for my Model T Ford. Totally original adaptation of the old hot air corn popper principle

I'll do this for the RS2 some day. The DC sports mufffler will make the job ez!

-take the "loud" restrictor adaptor to the Pep Boys or to your local (friendly) muffler shop.

-to the reverse (inside) end of that restrictor, add an extension to clear the bumper, and an elbow, firiing up. -fabricate a cone. Two cones, actually. The first cone welds or plugs to the upper end of the elbow. Lay into this cone a piece of perf metal (steel or al. may serve) with holes small enough to retain the corn.

The other cone or flare caps the corn chamber and has for a chimney, another pipe of small or large diameter pipe (larger is better)

Attach this rig to your DC muffler with the usual, single bolt. You now look like you have an exhaust system perfect for runnig thru the Okeefenokee swamp.

But not!

You pour in a quarter to half cup of corn. Run the engine at a a fast idle.

In two minutes or so corn should begin to flume from the pipe end. . And if you have that pipe end fitted with a 45 degree angle finial, perfecto!

Now, understand that this worked perfectly on the Model T Ford's custom muffler system that I had on my old car. IF it seems slow or lazy-popping on your RS2 (or whatever-Box), WRAP the entire exhaust piping with glass fiber exhaust tape (auto parts store, about $40 for a 2" x 50' length. You won't want to wrap the DC sports muffler cuz it looks so nice in polished s.s., but go ahead and wrap your pipes anyway. This is good mechanics, anyway.

The "PipeCorn" system can be made very simple and can even be auto-feeding by simple attachment of an inverted bottle of Orville's finest, into a holder with a rotating, thru-plug-valve to drop corn into a Y going into the down pipe. Turn a tiny crank or twist a bowden cable wire to feed the corn this way.

It realllly works and it realllly amazes crowds. All ages astounded. The popcorn is perfectly safe and edible. It is not exposed to toxic compounds for long enough or concentrated enough to really harm health. You do worse to run a car in your garage. And dry, unsalted popcorn will not get much eaten except by the birds.

-the salt and butter attachment has yet to be invented-

Default muffler insert

I have an RS2 with the insert already taken out at the dealer. I wanted to put it in today, but I don't see the bolt that holds it in. The insert has a hole in it for a bolt, but no bolt. Is it in the actual tail piece, or is it on the larger muffler?
I don't have the book handy to look at, if it is even in the book. Anyone got any ideas?

My insert was inserted when I bought the car. The bolt was in it. The bolt is about 3/4" long and has a 13mm head and nut.

without the sliencers i'm willing to bet it's borderline illegal in cali ( 95db )

with my custom cat back i feel a difference in no silencer and silencer. with the silencer i have a bit more torque but lose mid and high end.

without the silencer i almost stall it sometimes. yet have awesome mid and high end power.

i'm running 2 inch catback so no thats not too little backpressure it's just about right. either way my car runs good.

just a thought.
why dont you guys get center sections made so you have 2.0 all the way dwon the pipe?
