the drive belts on a bunch of these get loose (squeak) they
just need tightening or sometimes replaced (warranty?)..
Power Enterprises sells carbon kevlar drive belts for our
cars that are not supposed to stretch or squeal. But yeah, its not a timing issue..

there should be an adjuster on the alternator braket.. that
way on the box anyway. If you look, you'll see its pretty
easy. I was at a show the other week, when we all left, I
counted 4 boxes with squeeking belts pulling out, no lie.
One guy said he replaced his once at 50k miles, for the
same reason. Says he tightened the old one a bunch of
times them replaced it. I have no expierence with this issue
myself, so I can only say what others have done.. good
luck!!

There is a TSB on this, a known issues that can easily be rectified at a Toyota Dealer.

might be why I havn't had the issue, I had an a/c
compressor issue right after I got it, they had to replace the
belts and they probably performed the SB then

thats not a wise idea cause you'll have to keep oiling the chain

There is no chain alternative to the drive belt. If you are having problems, I recommend taking it to a mechanic. Dealer or not, they will get it installed for you.

If there's a TSB for it, take it to your Scion dealer. I have my Scion dealer do everything and they're very fair about price and are speedy. I don't always trust the independent mechanics unless I know them.
