Engine Starts, Squeals, then Dies
Wow, what a great car! Got it at 40,000 miles and now have 280,000. Only check engine light was a spark plug and just oil changes (myself), struts/shocks and brakes. Now, I have a new problem. Engine starts great, squeals, runs rough and dies all in less than 20 seconds, some smoke I've never smelled or seen before. Pulley bearing? Belt?
I have heard the squeal on wet mornings and cold/wet mornings and ignored it, thinking just a loose belt. But here I am with a car that won't run. Any ideas??

I would have replied sooner but couldn't get logged in properly and had to re-register. This is my post and here's what I found - No CE lights, it just wouldn't run more than about 10 sec. I took the alt belt off and it started and ran smooth. Figured it was the alt belt. It had 47k miles on it and was worn out, apparently couldn't get a grip. Got a Dayco replacement at Advance Auto and it runs perfect now. Next I need to replace the power steering belt since I can't remember how old it is. All's well that ends well!
