FREE Intake mod..
There is a way to change your stock intake around and make it a Ram Air Intake (still with the filter). I did notice some (very little but still better than none) power increase and definitely sounds a lot sweeter.
This uses all your stock parts and requires no modification of the parts. If people are interested in this let me know so I can post a "How To". It works because I beat stock xB's just with this only thing done.

A couple people have done this. Remove the intake snorkel, connect flex tubing to the airbox and snake it to either the fog light opening, lower grilles, or go big and drill a big hole in the bumper. (dmpsk8 and cinderblock have the big intake holes)
This might be good for the Cali guys with an 06 because they can't remove the air cleaner box with the carbon filter.

I was going to do something like that, but i found a good used Volant airbox on Ebay for cheap. It was missing a few parts, so it was a dud at first. After looking at its design, I started to modify it internally. It actually has too much volume in it for such a small engine. It has extra airways for forced air add ons, a complete waste if you ask me, and as such theres open areas where these things inlet. They are capped for normal use. I started taping up these areas internally, all the wile trying to direct the air to the filter wih more airspeed. I also cut slots in the grill right in front of the main inlet horn, this a poor mans ram air. It works, as I bought another grill to swap out for monsoon days, and the pressure car wash. I taped up the inlet horn a bit, as per my airspeed bid. I also added an airgiude plate at the front of the airhorn to get more air from the grill slots. At no time did I add a restriction. I also put some foam under the airbox lid and on the opposite from the internal air inlet. This took up some of the volume and made it nice and quiet, until you get on it. The real kicker was somthing I overlooked. It was the vacuum tube that was in the inlet pipe to the throttle body. It stuck into the tube about a half inch or so. Since it came that way, I thought nothing of it. I went back to the stock setup, and saw where the same vacuum hookup was flush inside the tube. I cut it out, as much as I could, and boy did it ever wake it up. Im going to make it flush inside, as all that air does not like any restriction in that area. Its all a prototype for now. Im going to get some kitty hair fiberglass and do it right in the future. For a little over 100 bucks, and lots of testing and trying, it runs real well now. I did pay for this in fuel mileage now, as it tends to run a little richer, but with the real cold air around, it runs great.
I test drove an 08, its nice and all, but this is more fun. Also I have an automatic, so I got back the power it takes away from the 5 speed, and maybe a bit more. Next off, a 2" custom cat back exhaust with two magnaflows in line. The whole idea is a baby sleeper until I can put in a proper turbo setup.

I'm not sure about getting a pic on here...so I'm just gonna throw this at it, and see if it sticks.
If it does there will be more, if not, back to the drawing board

I took some better pics without the backlighting, so you get a better idea of everything I did. Ill get them going shortly. It works too. I got a bone stocker up to 106, I figure 110 before any ex mods, and remember its an auto, the stick is better because of the somewhat limited length of the power curve. The custom stainless 2" from the rear of the cat back is goin in it in a few weeks(also got a 2" stainless resonator). That should really work well with a 4-2-1 header and Im thinking a tanabe touring muffler. Quiet and fast. screw noise, im too old for that crap..lol. These little engines really are cool. Just rev em and they go. Ya know, if it doesnt make it go faster, whats the point, I hate to be driving a lit up billboard, but then thats just me.
