Default Header install nightmare

I'm so bad luck that everytime I mod my car something wrong happens. So I bought the xB Megan header. With my luck, the Megan header didn't come threaded, so with the forum suggestion I went to the Autozone and got myself two nuts.

During installation, I stripped my nut and my springloaded bolt. Since the springloaded bolt is dealer parts, I had to run around looking for another spring loaded bolt that might fit. I found one but it's shorter so I installed it temporary.

Header is installed but it's leaking around the donut. So I went to the dealer and ordered two springs and bolts, guess what? it freakin cost me $30. Since I'm there, I asked him how much the donut is, it's freakin $47 something (talks about ripoff). So I only ordered two springs and bolts. I really don't wanna shell out $40 for a ____in piece of donut. Can I still re-use the stock donut? What grade of nut should I get and I'm not getting it at Autozone this time.

Now I'm driving a toaster that sounds like a lawn mower. My lesson from this? If you buy a Megan, make sure it's threaded. I still can't believe I got an old batch of Megan in 4/2006. And please don't strip your bolt.

Thanks for reading.

Are you sure the noise is coming from the pipe connection/donut or the head gasket. Make sure you have the spring bolt tightened all the way. good luck. I lucked out, my DC Sport install was about an hour and very easy.

Where did you get your Megan header from for it to be non-threaded? I'm asking because I'm about to get one myself and don't want to have to go through the same hastle... That sucks about your's man, I know the pain of having NOTHING go right all too well...

You can reuse your stock doughnut, if its is in good condition. I have reused it twice now, once after replacing the header and the second time when i replaced my full exhaust. But like you, Pimp and 05 Camo Box have all said the bolts have to be tightened down. After i put my new exhaust on i had the lawnmower sound, just tightened the two bolts down more and the sound was gone. So just make sure the doughnut is in good condition and tighten the new nuts and bolts as good as you can and you should be okay.

hey man i went through the same prob. it sucks like hell. My header was not threaded as well. I went to the hardware store and bought like 2 2.5 inch grade eight bolts, some lock washers and some lock nuts. Ny springs were still usable though. I did not know you could break springs. The stock spring loaded were too short to properly tighten down the header. Just remember lock nuts and washers. Car sounds like crap when its a lawnmower huh? i had the same sound as u prolly did. any other questions plz let me know and good luck

Man I think you are walking around a dead horse hoping he will get up. If you know what I mean? The problem is the header. Dude send that thing back and get the right one. You say it should be threaded and is not?.?.? Then send it back! Stop trying to fix their problem. Mismade is mismade, there are probably more problem's that you will realize later and have even less recourse or warranty.

Mikeinnj. I got it from the speed and style megan thread in groupbuy. I still can't believe I got the ____ty non-threaded one, it too late for me to send for an exchange now so I gotta fix it myself. I don't think I will buy Megan again.

hey Goldenarch do you still have the leak now or is it fixed?

i just used new nuts and bolts. you do not need it to be spring loaded. did you try and use th donut gasket and the lil flat gasket? JUST use the donut one. hopefully ya didn't mess up the donut or the head-manifold gasket.

it is now fixed. all i needed was new bolts and nuts for the spring loaded section. Also my header came with a gasket that goes under the donut.

Mine's not fixed yet. I replaced bolts and nuts but still leaking from donut. I've tightened it so much that the nut wouldn't even move. I'm guessing I need to buy new donut

how long are the bolts that you used. I used 2.5 inch ones but i had to add some washers because they were a little too long. Also did your header come with another flat gasket that goes under the donut that lines up with the holes on the header? That was an important piece that help stop the leak i had. Good Luck man

I used stock bolts. I have never heard anyone using the flat gasket, everyone just use the donut.
