Header or no header?
I have an automatic and have been thinking of dropping in a header. Why should i do this and why shouldn't i do this? Benefits? Gas issues?

you wont notice much with headers, i went with dc headers on the box .
if your looking for some noticable hp go with an aftermarket intake.
if you do end up getting headers dont stop there , hook up the rest of the exhaust .
warning ... once you start bolting stuff on its hard to stop .

Trust me on this: You will notice a power increase with a Header installed. While it may not be as big of a change with an automatic transmission you will definately feel and hear the difference, especially with the TRD Exhaust and the AEM intake. I highly reccommend the DC Sport Header.
I beg to differ on that note. " headers dont make much power".
Look for our dyno on the Strup header vs. stock. vs MMW.
We have 50 pieces being made as we speak and it definetly makes power shown in the dyno graphs.
Gas mileage is all based on how heavy your foot is.
But overall your car works less to get up and go.
I drove the box after we installed the MMW header and it made a big difference right off the bat vs. the strup we had in there before.

ANY header should provide a increase in HP & maybe some in tq( difference in mid/high rpms) the OEM design is pretty restrictive and yet is benificial see....you need some backpressure in order to maintain your torque...this is the downfall of the 4-1 header they are very free flowing headers that provide good things as far as hp but you do compromise your tq to an extent.....now i will admit that the WEAPON R/MMW header is a exciting step forward because they are incorperating the 4-2-1 design and the only other company that has done it so far for our car is OBX and that header just looks scary(poor quality) this design of header WILL help both hp&tq all across the powerband increasing in several areas but smoothing out the areas of loss and making a perfect curve so it bascially pulls the entire time
when i buy a header of the xa it will have to be a 4-2-1 since thats what i had on my paseo loved it. a 4-1 style improves more of the top end hp and i like an improvement of torque and power through the whole range. these engines weren't designed to be revved way up to make power.
It's not so much a question of will headers make a lot/less/or no power on an automatic...it's matching up the headers with everything else he has to make it work as a whole.
He has the TRD axleback exhaust so he has a slightly larger piping for 1/5 of his exhaust system. That is barely an improvement but will work great with adding headers and will add power. If he had a 2 1/4 catback/straight pipe those headers would rob him of a lot of power and the car would feel sluggish as hell by having both parts installed.
Headers+TRD axleback+AEM intake= bomb ___ setup for what its worth.

So getting DC Headers with my setup will be a definite improvement? worth the money, and im a fool if I don't do it?

To support what some of the others said, the DC Sports header is a great product. My gas mileage went up significantly when I installed it on my manual xA; I'm up to 41 mpg on highway trips with just the header and DC Sports axleback exhaust. Power increase was also slight, but every bit helps. DC Sports products are expensive, but part of what you're paying for is the CARB exemption. Depending on where you live and how likely it is that you'll move to California, that can make a difference to you, as well. Off the top of my head, I'm not sure that any others have the CARB exemption.
