help have code po172

hmmm, maybe not enough air and too much fuel across the oxygen sensor. it can also be simple as a clogged air filter or something in the intake causing air flow to be lowered or a bad or dirty mass air flow meter.

probably a bad primary o2...i fouled mine last year from just having a header (i believe) and it was always running like 12-13 afrs on my wideband. if your airflow was restricted, your MAF would only read the air going into the intake anyway....so im guessing thats not it. i had a similar problem today....but mine was running lean. same thing though...was the primary o2.
if you know someone with the same ride, swap with their promary o2, reset the ecu, and then try it.
did you change fuel type? if you put in anything higher than 87, that might also do it.

What do you mean OBD-II scanners are a bit limited? Will they not show codes for these cars or something?
#10
no i mean they will help you find the problem, but not necessarily the source of the problem. running rich could be caused by several different things but the scanner wont tell you exactly what the cause is.

ok i cleaned my intake and MAF.got a new filter cleaned the 02 off it had a lot of black on it check hoses put it all back on an it ran good yes its fixed.for about a day and now its back to the way it was .

That's really not how cars should be fixed. One quick look at the OBD scanner (don't confuse with Code Reader) data would help finding the problem.
