Default How fast can a Stock Auto-xB Go?

2006 Auto, xB, completely stock drivetrain and intake.

Between Arizona and California, down hill (6% grade), on a 70 mile straightaway, 2am in the morning, with no other cars around for miles...

This was as fast as I could get it to go...

LOL so I rounded up to 2 am.. Its all the same after midnight.. I don't get the gear "D" comment. I was in D/OD at the time. From the ratios we talked about in another thread, the maximum sustainable speed by gear in D is 108. In overdrive with about a 2k drop in rpm, I would guess the car is capable of 150.. But the engine can't quite give enough power to reach that. Either way if I know under absolutely ideal conditions the fastest I can do is about 109, then when I add mods, ill be able to gauge if they really did anything...

I did 110 MPH last night, but of course my car is a stick shift and its not stock. Juts have a good intake header muffler combo.

Wow, I always wondered that. I'm to much of a wimp to drive that fast. Especially In a car that bounces around the road like the xB. Im suprised it went that fast.

The xB is supprisingly stable at over 100. I was impressed, I have driven other cars which were scary at those speeds. My z28 I use to do that az-ca trip at over 150 (Not sure the actual number cuz the speedometer didnt go to160). Anyway Im not saying that its safe, Just the car feels fairly solid on the road and I wasnt getting any shimmy or that really light like you are going to come off the ground feeling you get in some cars. Make sure your tires are rated for it.. or at least that you arent doing it in hot weather. Hot tires and going fast for a long time could end up very badly, in a straight line or not.

Yeah. . . I hit about 118 on huge flat area in the dead of night (believe it or not, ambient temperature helps). Even a 5mph head/tailwind will play a role.

xA and 5spd.

I would be curious as to the top speed of an auto xB on a flat road, rather than a downhill grade. It reduces the load on the engine quite a bit. . . ESPECIALLY at 6%. That's a 6 foot drop for every 100ft. A 6% grade is fast at hwy speeds

Calculate everything out, and at 106MPH, you travel approximately 155 feet/second, which means that you're dropping at whopping rate of 9 feet/second!!!!! But then again, that number doesn't really mean anything at all, since it doesn't actually tell you how much gravity is assisting you, but rather your speed of decent. But as with all slopes, you increase your accelerational forces, since you use gravity to help you accelerate.

And all that means squat too, since I don't think you were looking to race anyone. Just be aware that traction on a downhill grade ain't so good, and that braking is especially dangerous, since you will almost completely unload your rear tires at that speed and going downhill.
