Good question. When someone pushes that envelope we'll all know. Seriously though, I doubt anyone truely knows yet. The only way to truely know is to do it.

I picked the scion because VW service sucks... some guys I work with broke his axles "because he had a cold air intake" not because he installed an aftermarket clutch, but "because he has a cold air intake"... oh and his tranny has a crack in the casing because the rear dog bone mount snapped off and took a chunk of the tranny with it, ...which was "also probably due to the intake"... quote from vw field rep

I was really interested in a 1.8t until i read up on vwvortex and seen how many problems they were having (back in 99 00) I then bought a 00 civic si, I was in the market again in 02 for a new car, and was looking at the 1.8t again... but they were still having the same problems... I would have thought that they would at least atempt to correct the problems when they started popping up, but they were still producing them without fixing thier known problems. I wouldn't want to buy a product from a company like that.

I know at least 3 vw owners who has their cars in service longer then they have them on the road.

I really like the interior/exterior fit and finish but they don't appear to be the right car for me

BTW I wouldn't be surprised if the stock block of the scions took close to 200 whp with proper tuning for at least 5k miles

Man That would help so much during the morning commute if it wasn't for all the traffic. I'll have to rush out and buy one then I can be as cool as you...

You don't seem to understand that we CHOSE these cars. I could go buy a VW tomorrow if I wanted one, I don't. Enjoy yours but quit trying to ____ in our cornflakes... OR at least clue up before you try to get to us... Sounds to me like your jealous

I'm not trying to ____ anyone off. You guys are jumping to conclusions. A good freind of mine purchased a Scion Xb and doesn't have any access to a computer. He was wondering how much power he could make. So you don't have to be a D##khead. I was just compairing, i'm sure in the long run your toyota built vehicles will be more reliable than mine. So I'm not trying to ____ in you cornflakes, ok buddy

Too late, my cornflakes already became saturated with urine

A buddy of mine bought a GTI, he wanted to run some people so we lined him with a Saab 9-3 SE Auto and watched him in the rear view lol. I was very disappointed with the performance of his car!!!

The saab was also rolling 25lb chrome 18's...

the TRD version (same engine afaik) was 158. I assume that the crank is forged because thats just how they do things for the most part in japan. I expect that with upgrades in main studs/head studs to ARP or similar that 200hp is not out of the question. After that the rods and pistons would be next. 100hp per liter is well within what I would call a reasonable expectation for most any import engine to produce with stock components. Again though tuning would definately affect your experience.

Gee since we are comparing unlike vehicles.....a 97-03 Grand Prix GTP can handle 500hp before you need to start updating the engine components inside

your 1.8t also has a completely forged bottom end.
