Default I NEED HELP: XB ENGINE PROBLEM

Ok here is what happend, It rained at my house all night on Wed 4-12. On Thur I had to go to work Since it rained all night my street was flooded in the morning. The water comes up about a foot. I had to go to work so I decided to take a chance and drive in the river(my street). I pulled out and I was doing ok until my car shut off. I live on an upward street so I rolled down the rest of the way out of the river (my street). When I tried to turn on the car it would not start. I kept trying and when it finally turned on it was making a clicking noise. I called off work and later that day when the street was clear form water I drove it home. Im not sure were the noise is coming from but I do know that I NEED HELP. I also know that when i rev my engine the clicking noise gets faster. I have a K&N intake if this helps. I think the intake was what went wrong, it might have sucked up water. What sould I do. Can I take it to the dealership with the intake on or should I put the OEM one back on.Is there anyone out there who can help me.

Well i am not a mechanic, but if the car still runs then you didn't hydrolock the motor. Does the clicking noise happen when your just sitting there idealing, if so can you tell where the noise is coming from exactly? Did you check your belts to make sure there was nothing rubbing against them, maybe some debris from the high water? I you do go back to the dealership leave the K&N on, because if not you would be commiting fraud and thats a big NONO. But maybe somone else will be able to pin point the problem, so you wont have to go back to the dealership and be able to fix it yourself. Did any dumby lights come on when this happened?

thanks for all of your post. The noise is there when the car is idealing, and when I drove it back home. The noise also gets faster when I rev. I am taking it to the dealership tomarrow, should I take off the intake or should I just leave it on.

lol commit warranty fraud. awesome.

this is a situation where the part you installed DID directly cause a problem.

drive it around a bit the clicking could be things drying and or still minute amounts of water left.

dude..... NEVER drive in a river.

Once again, i would say leave it on. But i have never been in the situation your in and would most likely think and ask the same questions you have. So if you feel this is the right thing to do, then do it. I just hope you can get that problem fixed, good luck and i was J/K with you on the floating box joke.

If it's a cold air intake, most likely you sucked up some water since it was a foot deep.

i worry about the same problem with my k&n. its litterally 1.5 feet from the ground. when it rains, i avoid sewers on streets, the cover is water resistant , not water proof. i think you should go with change oil, drive , change again. clicking means the head got warped or damaged. but you sucked in a little, not alot, usually an engine will just blow when u suck water up . after the 1st oil change , idle for maybee 10 min, dont drive more than a mile.

Dude might have splashed the distributor cap they kill the car when wet but if you get it fixed you can get a water bypass thing for the intake they are like 75 bucks or so and instead they spit water out a hole or something I live in the rainiest state washington so they come on everything we get here

the bypass won't work for the K&N intake unless you cut the intake somewhere.

Also the bypass may not work on the K&N since it is pretty short.

The bypass works by acting as an alternate point in which air can be sucked in from the intake.

Thus if the main opening (the normal filter) is submersed in water, the difference in pressure (or suction) will cause the bypass fins to open, allowing air in that way. This prevents the engine from funnelling water directly to it.

However, in short intakes, depending on how much you are revving, there is still a chance of sucking in some water. Its probably not enough to hydrolock the car, and as someone else said above... a little water won't hurt...

could be a valve or a bent rod. a buddy of mine drove through a small puddle in his maxima and sucked up some water. it was making a hellacious clicking/knocking noise and come to find out, he had bent 5 out of the six rods.

thank you guys so much for all of your help. I have already changed the oil once. But i will do it again. I only drove it around the block, after i changed the oil, and i let it idle for 10 min. I think it might have been something like a rod like loginskinner said, but im not sure. i am going to change the oil one more time and will see what happens. Should i get another oil filter or just use the sameone?
