Default Injen short ram intake help

I'm installing the injen short ram intake i just got, and i get confused when i keep seeing mention of a VSV. i figure i'm bound to run into it so i continue on and even though i removed the stock air box, i still don't see it! all i have is this...

i think that's supposed to be were the VSV is. If i'm right, how do I attach that to the provided L bracket?

i'm supposed to have this

where is that?!
Thanks
Noah G-

i think those 2 pix are the same component, but the second one is an aftermarket piece. that is my guess. the first one is a stock component. i have the same thing. it is used for air flow data into the engine. here is a pic of mine:

I am also assuming that the second pic you have is from a DIY article? This is the one i used and it is Noob friendly! http://www.clubxb.com/forums/f14/sho...-diy-7897.html

yes, the 06 model is the only 1st gen model with that huge airbox. btw, any intake will NOT pass smog if you have an 06. Make sure you save your old intake if you need to get smogged in the future! Just a heads up from my research for my 06.

have fun! and you'll really notice the sucking sound once you hit the really high RPMs. It sounds pretty awesome!

i can hear it even at idle from outside the car - really cool. it pushes me into the seats a bit now, much wanted!
how come no 06 will pass? i'm in colorado (as of august), didn't think of that.

I have an Injen SRI and mine has that mount already on it. I didn't have to get that bracket. Hmm, interesting.

yeah, at idle it sounds like a vacuum for me and a beast with those high RPMs. somehow that box plays a crucial role in passing smog. 04-05 dont have the box for some reason so we 06ers have to deal with this problem. i have no idea what the box is actually used for.
