Default Intake for the xB

Does anyone know how well a regular INJEN intake would do on an xB, and how much better is a cold air intake. Because if it sits behind the grill, then it would perform much the same right?

its a hundred and some odd horsepower engine... 2 foot extra of piping wont make that much of a difference. okay you might get what, 4 hp more?

go with the SRI. its cheaper, safer (not as prone to hydrolock), and performs awesome

I have the Injen SR. The filter sits behind the foglight and not in the engine bay.

I was wondering the same thing on which gives a better performance the INJEN Short Ram or AEM Cold Air Intake. I was also told by a local parts guy that the CAI's are a little more prone to Hydrolock.

Anyone ever use both?? which is better?

you would get hydrolock if you air filter was submersed in water... i mean if your using short intake then your getting hot air from the engine... if you use the longer arm intake then your getting so called cooler air but hydrolock?? come on... that guy prob dosent know what hes talkin about..

i remember i was in dallas and it was raning so bad that the water was 1/2 my 17' wheels and i didnt have hydrolock.. so in AZ you should be fine..

I'm not getting any hot air from the engine using the Injen short ram. The filter sits OUTSIDE of the engine in the front wheel well, behind the foglight.

Unless of course its the Injen short ram for the xA, THAT ONE sits inside the engine bay.

Well I'm using dryer vent pipe and it works for me haha ..I dont think it does anything though, casue it still goes through my air box, BUT it sounds cool at high rpms when the air is comming up the pipe haha

I like my Injen CAI but I have nothing to compare it to but stock. There isn't too much difference between where the filter for the two Injens ends up, although the CAI gets it down in the fender more. The tip of the filter is about a hands length away from the front lip. The CAI can be split and ran as a short ram during wet weather if you're worried, although in that config, the filter sits right about where the stock airbox sits so it'd probably be a little hotter air, but with peace of mind... Still, I think the main advantage comes from the freer-flowing filter more than the temp change, if any, of the air. The CAI is better for showing, the SRI is almost stealthy, which has its advantages too.

I wonder if the longer tubing helps to dissipate any internal heat from the air or if it affects the air velocity, flow characteristics, etc. I don't know, maybe it's just the only way to make it fit. I do know it made a nice difference on my auto Box, especially off the line.

another thing to ponder:

How much heat is coming off the back of the radiator and hitting the SRI?

I've got a plan in the works for checking the temp differences between filter placements...

Just so you guys know the injen short ram has the highest hp gains of any intake for the xB . it gets more hp than the cai by injen. the cai is longer . on scions alot of manufactures list as cai when it's still pretty much short ram as far as length , then others list short ram as cai because they all get colder air from behind the bumper. only the greddy sits inside the engine compartment . if the intake tube isnt coiled up like a snail ( the dealer aem intake , and the injen cai) it's short ram that gets cold air. so same thing!!!! did you guys know the aftermarket L pipe aem intake gets about 2 more whp than the dealer only snail pipe intake? about 4.5 compared to about 2 .
