well this is the best part of your car. i dunno about you but i enjoy workin on my car. i dunt own a scion so this reply would not answer your question but you should try it yourself and have sum fun.

its jus removal of your stock air box and piping.
then replace it with your intake and filter head. fasten everyting and plug all everyting bak in if you can.

but tats only briefly how to do it.

these rnt instructions, jus motivation! :D

i dont like messin wit car stuff unless its exterior stuff thats really simple like vinyl or emblems
i got the install done i dont really feel a major difference but it is noticeable not sure if its a mental thing. The gas pedal feels smoother when you step on it and sounds nice. also i drive an auto xb so thats probably why i got these results

i got my k an n from adventon really kool company i had my friend install it the other day u can slightly feel a difference the biggest difference is that its easier to hit the redline and how the gas pedal feels smoother. For some reason mileage is terrible. I got my xb used with 1800 miles on it and have the best my mileage has ever been is 234 and thats without the intake

hmm... that's sounds abit low for gas mileage. u sure u're gauging it correctly? cuz even with my K&N and exhaust.. i'm still getting about 28~30 mpg

im thinking the guy who had my xb before i did drove those first 1800 miles pretty roughly cuz the past two times ive asked the dealer they say the cars mileage will improve once my car hits 10000 miles. but so far no luck im averagin round 24mpg i drive mostly on streets rarely use the freeway, but alot of people on the forum get 284 minimum on their mileage when theyve got a lead foot
