Default Magnaflow Exhaust is Too Loud!!!

Hey everyone. I just got back from Performance Muffler in Thousand Oaks, Ca. I had them install the following:

Magnaflow Resonator
Magnaflow Exhaust
2.25" Piping from the Cat-Back
3" Exhaust Tip

Although the system sounds really good - very deep and clean sounding. It's just WAY too loud for my taste. It kind of drones around 3K RPM. Power increase is slightly noticeable, especially passing in 4th and 5th gears. I have an Injen short-ram intake, as well.

How can I make it quieter? I'm thinking about having the Toyota factory resonator welded back on instead of the Magnaflow one. Does anyone know if this will quiet it down? If so, how much.

Any help would be appreciated!

sounds like everyone says that all the aftermarket exhausts are too LOUD. So i think you should just get trd exhaust. and try getting a silencer or if that's not possible throw a potatoe in each hole. i don't if that last one would work but it's sounds like it would. lol.

more resonators would definetly work. Are you running the cat still if not definetly throw that on. Or you could run smaller piping

I have this same set up. I think it's one of the quietest I've heard. Just add another silencer.

everyone has their own "acceptable" levels of noise.... i would just try adding a silencer.

I have the Tanabe Medallion Touring and it gives nice sound but not too loud and no droning. The TRD is also supposed to be similar to the Tanabe sound wise.

I had a DC prior to the Tanabe and IMO it was obnoxiuos.

Hmmm....not exactly the type of "help" I was expecting. Especially SuperBoxCarXB - really helpful, bro.

Yes, the cat is still installed. I suppose I'll try the Dynamat to quiet the droning. As for reinstalling the factory resonator, does anyone have any experience with this?

if you hate it so much just go back to stock, This car is the loudest "stock" i have heard for its size, Plus if you do swap the stock resonator, restriction wise, you just wasted alot of money. Your best bet is to sell and get trd or tanabe.

Money isn't really the issue here. If I "wasted" a few hundred bucks, big deal. I'm more concerned with the droning, and possible re-installing the factory resonator.

It perrty loud, but i got used to it, and my radio volumes have jumped up a notch....well,nah they didnt but now i got an excuse.

I do really love it now, its great all around and you have drone with most exhausts so ya.
O ya and some guy that posted in my thread said he swapped out the resonator and is much happier so ya might wanna pm him. i dont know if it was the stock or another after market tho

Thanks, Metal112524. I'm going to order up some Dynamat this week, and go to town on the rear end next week. If that doesn't quiet it down, I'm going to put the factory resonator back in, and see if that does the trick!

I have the PM exhaust and thought it was loud at first too. Do some sound deadening and give it some more time. I found that after you get used to the new exhaust, it doesn't seem as loud. The only issue I have with mine is the 3k RPM Drone, but I can live with that. This system is really quiet compared to most others on the market.

I just had a Flowmaster Hushmaster II installed mid body on an xB yesterday, the sound levels are not acceptable. I'm heading back to the shop tomorrow for them to install a resonator behind the axle; hopefully that will fix it.

I was unable to use an xB exhaust kit due to my vehicle's prior modifications (wheelchair ramp is installed in the stock pipe location). I was mainly doing it for closer routing to the body as the setup that was on there got cracked going over speed bumps at the hospital (yeah, it's ironic that one of the primary destination for the vehicle ends up damaging it). The muffler needs to be mounted in front of the rear axle / gas tank and an oval muffler won't fit. It doesn't help that the rear seat and trunk space have been removed and fitted with a flat steel flooring with a textured mat overtop. I'm seriously thinking about pulling up the mat and installing some Dynomat underneath.

My question is, if the resonator is not enough, who makes a universal silencer for a 3 inch tip?
